How to motivate a kid to make friendships?

KN

My kid is 7 year old. He is shy(only with strangers). He do not want to make new friends. Recently I moved to new house where all kids play together in the evening. But he do not want to go and play with them. He gets bored because he does not have any friends. So I introduced him to those kids but still he is not ready to go and play.
This is the situation everywhere. He is not ready to make new friends.
How can I motivate him or take fear out of his mind for strangers?

Answer
First just understand and accept that he is not going to jump right into friendships easily. Don't push or pressure him to do so or he will feel just that much more anxiety about it. Let him and even encourage him to watch. See if he wants to do something outside on his own, like bike ride or do some sort of project. It also would be helpful if you perhaps invite 1 of the kids over for a playdate or invite the family over for a cookout. Think about it - would you want to be the 'new' kid in a whole group or would you feel more comfortable meeting 1 at a time?

Be the friendly parent to the other kids. Even if your son isn't outside, try being present outside when the kids are playing, doing gardening or washing your car - maybe even make some brownies or something to pass out. It will ease that transition and be more casual.

At what age can kids start riding dirt bikes?

Momof3kidd

I have a 7 year old and a 4 year old boy who are interested in dirt biking. What age would it be appropriate for them to start? I think they are a little young, my husband disagrees. What age did your kids start?

Answer
I think thats great that they want to start, there really is no age limit, you just have to go to a local dirt bike retailer and check some bikes out because they come in a bunch of sizes, i've been riding since i was 2 so i know what I'm talking about, its just takes practice. just make sure you teacher your kids and they should be fine.

I am 16 and i want a creative Halloween costume but i also want to look good when going to parties but i don't want to be slutty. Please help me come up with ideas. I could be pippi longstocking, but its not my first choice. I want a unique costume that will make me stand out too. Thanks!! :)

Answer
well it's not exactly cute but it is unique. one year i went as a speed bump :) i dyed white sweat pants and sweat shirt yellow and spray painted the tires on my parents car and had them drive over different places on the sweats and did the same with a bicycle. it was really interesting and everyone thougt it was hillarious.
i also went as a school girl one year but it was a play on words. i just wore things from a lot of different schools. like a tshirt from one school, shorts or sweats from another, a baseball hat, maybe a backpack or a jacket or something from another, whatever you can find actually. and universities are usually easier than high schools because they tend to have more clothing and accessory options.
or you could try to do something cute from everyone's childhood like a character from a tv show. something like strawberry shortcake would be easy since she just wears jeans and a striped shirt and you can usually find her hat in the kid aisle of party supply stores like party city. or do something current like dora the explorer, or get some friends and go as the backyardigans.

How long it takes to learn bicycle if practiced for 1 hour a day?

Boka Baxo

I'm 16 and still can't ride bicycle. I wanna learn it ride now. If I practice for at least 1 hour for a day, how long it will take to make me learn riding bicycle? I know that different people take different time to learn it. But, what will be the time from a general aspect?
please give your opinion about how long it can possibly take...

Answer
well i bought my kid a bike from http://www.2wheelbikes.com and he learned to ride it within the first 2 minutes. Its really all about confidence. Once you go dont stop, and once you start to lose momentum, be ready to put one foot done to balance. once you start going its simple. Youll be like wow, i cant believe it was so easy. So my opinion is no more than 2 minutes.

I have 2 kids and they are toddlers.I miss doing trekking, hiking and rafting activities..We do not have a nearby family but are willing to have babysitters. How much do baby sitters usually cost for a whole day?

Also, any tips to still have fun in life despite kids is appreciated.

Answer
If they're toddlers, they're still little enough to strap to your backs and go for a hike. Let them walk as much as possible, and you'll be amazed at how much they'll enjoy nature and how much they'll discover. I know plenty of people who hike and camp with small children. You might not be able to go as far as you used to, and you'll have to stop more often for snacks and/or diaper changes, but you can still have a good time.

My youngest is 4, and we have recently tried kayaking/canoeing, and he loved it, so it may not be long until you can do those things, too.

And if you like biking, just get a couple of child bike seats or a child trailer, and they'll probably love to ride along.

Actually, the more you gradually introduce them to these activities when they're young, the more interested they'll be in doing them as they get older.

what is the best way to bike with my toddler in Manila; a child seat or a trailer?

may-i

i want to bring my toddler to day care and me to work in my bike. i live in a university campus. there are a lot of cars and potholes en route. help.

Answer
Go for a bike seat my friend. Trailers tend to increase the length of the bike that can increase the chances of getting hit by something or turning. Drivers in the Philippines are quite rude by the way and you may not want to add that in factor.

Where is a good place to go on Spring Break with two young children?

I am going to be starting my final year of graduate school, and I want to go someplace on Spring Break. I have two young children (5 and 3) that I am taking with me. I would like to aviod a bunch of drunk college kids (not that I have a problem with drunk college kids, just not around my children). Where do you think is a good beach to take them?

Answer
Don't know where you live or your budget so it's sort of hard to say. We used to go to Hilton Head Island in South Carolina every year at spring break. Lots of things for the kids, good food, rent a house or a condo for the week, no spring break kids around so you don't have worry about that. Lots of bike trails and nature stuff to do. Kids are a little young for a lot of activiities but it's a nice relaxing place.

What do you recommend for a beginning road biker?

Lillian Ch

So I just found out my college has a cycling team. I've never competitively biked nor even own a road bike. I ride my cheap mountain bike to and from work frequently. However, I really want to join the team. What bike do you recommend for a beginner that isn't too expensive... as I am a college kid. I've been looking at craigslist at some old peugeots..

Answer
If you are going to become competitive you need atleast 105 components when its shimano. If its SRAM then you should go with atleast SRAM Rival Components. I am talking about shifters and derailleurs. You need something that shifts on command. Anything like Sora components will not shift on command and they will make you lose valuable momentum and time while the peloton starts moving away. I suggest spending atleast $1,100 for your first road bike. I think that is the lowest price you can get a decent road bike nowadays. My first road bike was $1,100. It had Shimano 105 components and I was willing to spend the extra because the other bike I was considering which had the Shimano Tiagras did not shift so well. I just purchased a nice bike. The money you spend on your bike is worth the investment considering the amount of time you will spend with it. You get to be outdoors as well.

I am not sure what could be a good bike for a female. Make sure you get the bike that is the right size for you. Dont end up getting suckered into buying a bike that is slightly too big or slightly too small at a local bike shop because they are trying to get rid of that bike to make room for new inventory. Some bike shops will do that to you.

I recently looked at a Kona Zing. Thought it was a good bike for the price. Its roughly $1,100 and it has components that are found on bikes that normally cost $1,800.

Q. Well since there is going to be a sims 3 in 2009 i garentee through all the fans there probably will be a sims 4.If there was going to be a sims 4 what would you want in it?Heres what i want.

1.To be able to actually drive the car and have control like with the arrow keys or something.

2.To be able to disapline my sims children(grounding,no phones or something)

3.To go to school. We see the kids get in the bus but dont you ever wonder what they do when there there.Possably we could give them the action to throw spitballs at the teacher or something.

4.They need more toys for the kids especially toddlers.(maybe give them a blow up pool, bike or sandbox.)

5.Also i want my sim kids to go to other party's.I want to walk the neighborhoods and ring the door bells in others houses and go inside.

6.Lastly for the sims to speak english that would make it so much simpler.

Answer
1.To be able to actually drive the car and have control like with the arrow keys or something.

- Sim City 4 lets you. It is not that fun. They won't put it in Sims... ever.

2.To be able to disapline my sims children(grounding,no phones or something)

I can bet you that it will be in Sims 3.

3.To go to school. We see the kids get in the bus but dont you ever wonder what they do when there there.Possably we could give them the action to throw spitballs at the teacher or something.

Sims 3 will let you. Confirmed for the most part.

4.They need more toys for the kids especially toddlers.(maybe give them a blow up pool, bike or sandbox.)

Sims 3 will let you, if not, there is mods.

5.Also i want my sim kids to go to other party's.I want to walk the neighborhoods and ring the door bells in others houses and go inside.

Sims 3, confirmed.

6.Lastly for the sims to speak english that would make it so much simpler.

They have said, it will never happen. There is a reason they have them speak that language. (No one knows what it is called.) The reason is that if they did let Sims speak English then people would complain that all the voices were generic. But, if they have a made-up language, they can just make the sound files higher or lower pitched.

I would not get your hopes up for a Sims 4, it would not be out till probably 2012 or 2013 and the way Spore is looking, it seems like Spore will take the place of the Sims.

What kind of play group for my son?

My son is going on 21 months and is Special Needs due to having 2 open heart surgeries. I want to get him playing with other kids his own age, but they're so much bigger then him, he's only 29 inches long and 20 lbs. But mentally in his age bracet. When he plays with the neighbor babies, he's as big as them but, more into the toddler on the go thing, and the kids his age are way bigger then him (afraid he will get toppled if they get rough or mad). I just wish there was a midway, he loves playing ball, running, and riding his push bike. Should I add him to a special needs play group if there is one or just main stream him with a regular group?

Answer
Try a small group with two kids his own age. And just keep a close eye on him.

How can I encourage my 3 year old to use the pedals on his toddler bike?

He just scoots and refuses to push the pedals. I've tried to help him under stand that he has to keep his feet on the pedals.

My new story? What do you think so far?

best kids bike helmet review on Feral Kids BMX Bike/Skate Helmet - Buy Bikes Online
best kids bike helmet review image
Q. I'm usually a fantasy writer, but this is a shot at writing a more modern book. i haven't had any reviews of this so far, so what do you think of this beginning?

The still night air was broken by a rumbling in the distance.
Silhouetted trees rustled softly, towering high over a dirt road that wound like a dizzy snake through the flat Australian countryside. Hours ago, the sun had beat down on native plants until the grass was scorched dry and creeks vanished. Even the night air was hot.
The rumbling grew closer, growling and snarling as metal monsters came screaming down the road, kicking up dust clouds in their wake. Insects that had been dancing in the night air scattered as the three Harleys roared by, one by one. The riders were clad in leather, their faces hidden by helmets.
They rode for another hundred meters, before the one in front made a quick hand gesture and swerved dangerously to the side, off the road and banking on the crispy grass. The other two followed and dismounted.
"Do we leave them here?" a male's voice asked.
"Use your brain, Jason," a female - the leader - replied. "Who's going to take them?"
The last rider, the youngest of the three, rested his helmet on the seat of his bike. He shook his jet-black hair away from his eyes. "What if we were followed?"
"Who would follow us? We're just a bunch of kids going for a ride, aren't we? Anyway, we're more than a match for anyone who would follow us," the girl said.
"At least it's night," Jason pointed out to his seventeen-year-old brother. To his older sister, he said, "Mind you, Viv, I reckon we should use cars from now on. Or at least get Alex to stop revving the bike like that."
Alex grimaced.
Vivian took her helmet off and tied her long, white-blonde hair into a ponytail. "Cars are no fun. What's the time?"
Jason checked his watch. "One thirty," he replied.
"We have half an hour. Let's get moving."

I'm going to post a more action-y scene in a few moments, but so far, what do you think?

Answer
Well first thing is first. The first sentence try arranging it as: A rumbling in the distance broke the still night air. Instead of what you have. other than that it's okay.At first I was bored but then it started to get interesting and it did leave me hanging wanting to find out more. I like your setting. try making it clearer because it sometimes gets to a point where it's confusing.
Other than that it's good.

I don't need anything fancy. I just need it to get around to nearby places like the library and the record store, since I'm only 14 and can't drive.

Again, nothing fancy.

How much should I pay for a used bicycle in decent condition?

Answer
This is a good question, but it is hard to answer. There are an incredible number of factors that will influence how much you will have to pay for a bike. I always found getting a bargain really is a matter of how much time and effort you are willing to put into the pursuit. If you need something right now, you usually will pay top dollar. If you have time and are willing to spend some effort looking around you can scout out all sort of deals.

Here is what I've noticed about bicycle prices. A 2 to 5 year old bike should never sell for more than half the price of a comparable new one. Older bikes can be easily had for $20-$50, but may need some work to get on the road. (Tires and brake pads often need to be replaced, but these are pretty cheap and easy to deal with.) The more someone simply wants to get a bike out of their house, the less it will cost. Nearly every one who has kids has a couple of old bikes collecting dust in the garage that they may want to get rid of.

Here are the places to find a decent used bike:

- bike store expect to pay top dollar
- used bike cooperative - lots of places have cooperatives that rebuild and sell bikes
- thrift store
- police and/or town sales of abandoned and stolen/recovered bikes
- craigslist.com
- neighbors - try sticking a note in all of your neighbors mailboxes or doors stating you are looking for a decent used bike. (You may get one for free.)

Good luck and happy hunting.

Why the government is so slow in building bicycle trails for people to commute?

d o

Why the government is so slow in building bicycle trails for people to commute which will significantly reduce our dependence of foreign oil and global warming? This also gives people chance to excercise.

Answer
Most people are under the mistaken belief that politicians are community leaders. This is far from the truth. Politicians respond to topical events so they can be seen to be doing something. (I'm a cynic but I think they also like to make a few quid on the side)

Cycling has two great allies at the moment Global warming and obesity. There has been no better time than now for the cycling community to take the bull by the horns and get out there and lobby.

I'm more familiar with statistics in my own country. From the little I've been able to dig up on the U.S. and the U.K. , there seems to be large parallels.

One bicycle is sold each year for every 20 people in the population.

25% of the adult population (over fifteen) will ride a bicycle at least once a year. Less that 8% will ride more than once a week.

The number of cyclists has risen dramatically in the last few years.

Every politician all over the world knows the value of keeping lobby groups happy.

Cyclists represent larger percentages of the population than many very effective lobby groups.

It is hard to co-ordinate an effective lobby group when cycling is so splintered you have roadies, mountain bikers, bmx, flatland, track/velodrome, and there are competition riders, social riders, commuters and kids all fighting between each other trying to get the few scraps that come our way.

If anybody cares to start a world wide lobby group solely aimed at getting more people cycling it has my support.

Does anyone have any advice about moving to Whistler?

best place to buy kids bikes vancouver image

T. T

I am a single mother of 3 young children and find myself wanting to move back out west. I currently live in Ontario and have for the last 7 years. A friend of mine suggested that I try Whistler. After a lot of research online, I find that I still can't come to a decision. Just so you can better understand, I will say that I do not ski, nor am I a mountian biker. I do however want to raise my children in a place filled with these types of activities.
If anyone could give me any kind of advice on this idea of mine I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
T.T.

Answer
If you have a career or profession where you make $100,000 plus a year, and/or other income as well, then you might be able to afford to live in Whistler, if you have a good size down payment for a home there. Housing is scarce, especially rentals. You will be best off if you can buy, but it is very very expensive.

If that level of income is not you, then I would recommend trying out Squamish, which is halfway between whistler and Vancouver, or Vancouver itself.

Consider Vancouver area ... there are three mountains within 20 minutes of downtown that offer skiing, snowboarding and such in the winter, and mountain biking and hiking in the summer. You can find semi-reasonable rentals in Burnaby, and East Vancouver (the area just west of Burnaby around the PNE). You don't want East Vancouver between Nanaimo and Main, just FYI).

IMO, your kids would actually have more opportunities in the Vancouver area, and life will be more affordable.

best family neighbourhood near burnaby?

Bender

I am thinking of making the move to British Columbia from Ontario. I would be working in hi tech in Burnaby and want to know of a family orientated and safe neighbourhood with good schools.

Answer
I lived in Burnaby for 10 years and moved out of my parents' house to Port Moody recently - both cities are awesome and PoMo is a 15min drive from where I was in Bby. Anyway I lived in the neighbourhood in the Winston/Government St area - right by the Costco on Brighton by the Production Way/University Skytrain Station (like the subway in TO, you will come to know it well if you travel transit!) anyway it was a great neighbourhood and full of kids with an elementary school on Government St within walking distance from virtually everywhere there, with a great park (with a water park area!) one block down. If you stay long enough for your kids to grow up, the highschool is also within walking distance (maybe 15mins walking) and you can drive to Lougheed Mall and the grocery store there in 5mins, or walk there in 30-40 (if you're an exercise enthusiast!) If you're religious at all there is a church about 10mins (walking) away and also 15min walk to an awesome dog park situated in a wildlife reserve with EXCELLENT walking trails, and a 15 min walk the other way (or take the long way from the lake a the wildlife reserve and get there in maybe 30-40) will take you to a small horse boarding stable with a riding ring, if you have any interest in horses!
Never heard of any crime or break ins, although a bike did get stolen from our backyard which made no sense because it was literally rusted in our bushes... and they left their scooter so does that even count as theft? Haha.
Hmm what else. Oh the fire department is right by the costco which again is only a 5-10min walk if that matters... And the skytrain ("subway" I mentioned earlier can be walked to in 5-15mins depending on which area of the neighbourhood you live in.
Anyway I loved living there it was close to everything. I guess you could call it North/Central Burnaby? Never knew what to call it.
North Burnaby is also relatively nice but the closer you get to hastings (heading in the vancouver direction at least) in my opinion gets less nice, the houses are older and there are more homeless people you may encounter, though probably not in the neighbourhoods. I just personally find nothing attractive about many of the areas in North burnaby, mostly because it's more housing and not as close to everything as where I lived but to each their own.
South Burnaby is pretty crappy to be honest. I would never want to live there. Very ghetto though not sure about crime and all that but I have never enjoyed myself any time I've had to go there, and when my boyfriend and I looked at some places there to buy we were totally disgusted.
Central Burnaby as far as I know is pretty nice and we considered a place there before settling in Port Moody which I must tell you is amazing and I have heard only good things from everyone living here and in surrounding areas - Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Anmore <-- a very rich neighbourhood by the way and not THAT far from Burnaby, prob a 20-30min drive depending on how far up you live so if you have money put Anmore on your list of places to look at. Anmore as well as Coquitlam, PoCo and PoMo are all very tight-knit communities and everyone knows eachother and goes to the same schools (which are abundant in these areas!) and the same vets and the same walking trails, dog parks, beaches/lakes, etc.
There is also New Wesminster which is a very old city and has older features and various types of neighbourhoods (good/bad/ugly/etc) but they are working on cleaning up some of the "bad" areas by building new condos and giving the places a face lift to bring in younger families. My boyfriend;s family moved there when he was 10 so he grew up there and really liked it but he lived in a good neighbourhood but personally I dont think I'd really want to live there.

Basically I think you are making a good decision considering the Burnaby area and like I said there are cities surrounding it close enough that you could consider calling home too.
Sorry to make this so long but I hope I was informative enough to help you decide something.

Whatever you do don't move to vancouver despite what everyone says it sucks. I dunno though if you live in toronto or anything and like it maybe you'd like it. Just my personal opinion... I find absolutely NOTHING appealing about vancouver or even the downtown area. I avoid it as much as I can. There are some nice places though and I bet anyone reading this will freak out at my comments towards vancouver but again just my opinion.

Hope I helped! Welcome to BC in advance! Everyone loves it here!

Can the seats be easilly removed? Is there enough room for 2 or 3 bikes to fit in the back?

Answer
There's not enough height. I couldn't get my kid's 16" bike in straight up. No way would my mountain bike fit, even with the seat down.

It's why roof racks or bumper hitch mounts are sold. Think about it, it will take a full sized van to gain enough vertical height handle bars to tread to just walk one in.

What kind of bike should I get my son?

..........

I'm not into bikes, but he wants one for Christmas. He doesn't want a "cheap" $80 one, so I'm going to go ahead and get him about a $200 one as his big gift. He wants a bike that he can ride on the street and in someone's backyard but not one that can like ride through a forest or something. PS, He's 12 years old if that helps any and he's a little small for his age.

Answer
Even $200 or less will mean a discount or big box store bike. (puke) Is he even close to 5' tall? If so, get to some real bicycle shops. Real bicycles come in various frame sizes to fit most anyone from small to tall - with either 26" or 700C wheels & tires.

Kids usually like mountain bikes. Click on the link below & look at the upper left side of the page: Sizes. Those are not wheel sizes, but frame sizes - 12, 16, 18, & 20". Bike cost about $300.00.

Also see 2nd link for a guideline on bike sizing (mountain bikes).

I need to get a new bike for my soon to be 6 year old. He is on the bigger side of an almost 6 year old (not fat, just build) and I have no clue on how to measure his current bike to get the next size up for his birthday next week. Please help!

Answer
Kid's and adult's bikes are measured differently, btw. For kids, it's the wheel diameter, which may be printed on the side of the tire. If it's not, measure the outside of the tire from one side to the other - children's bikes are either 12", 16", 20" or 24", so there's enough variance that you'll be able to tell pretty easily which one his is.

Look at your son's inseam measurement to determine what size to get him.

And happy birthday to him!

Where can i buy bmx bikes without brake lines?

I want one of those bmx bikes that have no brake lines and you break by pedaling backwards. Anyone here know where I can buy those?

Answer
Wal-Mart or Academy.

If it has coaster brakes it's not a real BMX, it's a kids bike. If however you're set on getting a real BMX and having a coaster brake you can order a coaster brake rim, I think I saw some at DansComp.com and I know for sure Amazon will have a few.

That being said if you want better quality and a coaster brake Haro's Z-Line of bikes, while still kids bikes, are at least better quality. They're still bottom rung for Haro, but bottom rung for Haro is out of reach to Yoa Ming if he's standing at the top of the Wal-Mart/Academy ladder.

----update----

I took a nap and it jogged my memory, you can get 20" Skyway Tuffs's with a coaster brake. I looked on the PlanetBMX website and only blue remains, but I'm throwing in a link below. If you want high quality and durable (and weight isn't your chief concern) these are one of the best ways to go. If you want style get a white, red, or maybe yellow frame and put a blue seat and grips on to match the wheels. If you really want to go for style get tires in a color to match the frame, at 20" size you can do that, unfortunately I can't find red 24" tires to save my life :-)

When buying a new bmx raceing bike what do you look for?

pickle

How do you know it's the right size for you? What parts are important to the weight of the bike? What brands are good? What size and tires are right for this sport.
This is for an 8 years old boy who wants to race for the first time. He's got a helmet and protective clothes. But his bike is not right because it has foot brake. I don't want to asemble and our budget is 250-300.

Answer
For an eight year old, you are looking at a mini or junior sized bike. Micro Mini will be too small. You are looking at a bike with 1 1/8" Tires.

There are complete bikes out there for around $300, but be aware that kids grow out of mini and junior sized bikes all the time, meaning that there, and you can ofen pick up a $400 bike for under $250 that has bee raced 1-2 seasons. Most bike shops could give it a good tune-up for around $50 and you are ready to go.

You are correct that a bike with a coaster brake is not a good choice.

If you are looking for areas to improve a race bike in the weight department, the wheels are the best place to make improvements - as anything that is rotating is more important that the non-rotating parts.

Good Brands? GT, Redline and Diamondback are companies with a hisotry of BMX racing and they are still producing bikes for racing today.

Mongoose, as suggested by one other poster, has not been producing competitive race bikes for a number of years. THey have some entry level bikes that woudl be OK for racing for around $200 and then the rest of thier bikes are Dirt Jump/ Freestyle Bikes. The parent company that owns Mongoose also ownd GT and Schwinn as well as some tother brands. GT is currently thier "race bike" brand.

If you do decide to go used, there are some premium brands to watch for in addition to Redline, Diamond Back and GT, there is also Intense, Supercross, Redman, GHP, Felt and a bunch of others.

Be awere that there are also very nice race bikes bearing the FMF name, and they are good bikes and components. But they are no longer produced and getting any sort of mfg's warranty, even on a new bike, will not likely be possible. But if you can get a new FMF at near used prices, it may work out well.

Alright, well I have terrible anxiety.. And it drives me nuts! I get it everyday, yet again I have only Twelve years of age. This anxiety, It put extremely big Rashes on my chest. I have been put in the Emergancy Room for anxiety. I have had to get a Lumbar-Puncture.
I also have severe depression, I am on No Meds. This depression has been here for years, I have cut myself since I was Ten.
That leaves over 750 scars on my right arm, And that has led to bullying. Being called "Emo" and such. When I was Eleven, I was sexually abused having to do things I never wanted to do. That has led drastic effect on me. I have almost killed myself around Four times, because of being bulliled. Since those boys did those things, I have been called "Slut" "Whore" "Skank"...
Despite the fact that I am adopted, my mother was Six-Teen years old when she had me.
So of course kids LOVE to pick on me saying.. I'm the daughter of a "Whore" "Slut" "Skank".. These words had killed my emotional concept of bonding with other humans.
I have the fear of getting attached, because everyone betrays me, they leave me. It feels like they love to hurt me.
I've lost my ability to cry. And that is so hard to deal with, I mean we all want to cry at some points and just never stop. Am I right?
Well ya' know I can't even start.
And You don't know how badly I want to.
When I look in the mirror I see imperfection, I lift up my shirt.. And think not enough ribs are showing, I need to lose weight.. So then I don't eat for a few weeks. But it's hard, I'm a athlete.
I've broken my self esteem.
Somedays I just sleep all day, and never do anything.
I have no friends what so ever.
My bestfriend died, on July 3rd 2012.
And to this day I don't believe he's dead.
I still think he's out somewhere riding his mountain bike.
I've been to therapy, but I couldn't handle the big ball of happy.
I've been off and on drugs, and alcohol.
It made me feel so much better.
I'm trying to quit, and get my life back,
Help..

Answer
Hello! You are going through a lot right now. You are so young to be going through this. I'm sorry but hope I can help. I'm not a doctor but believe you do need help with some meds. I believe you need counseling also. But again i'm not a doctor. I was severly sexually abused for years and I am in therapy and take meds. Also I have anxiety. I try to deal with this by calming myself down by thinking of peaceful things. I try to stay positive in everything I do and say. This helps because negativity makes things worse. It is a shame that the other kids pick on you and bully you. Could you not say something to the school counselor and go to her or him for a little help. I feel you have some depression also. because you are so blue over your whole life. I'm sorry that you self harm. I don't understand that but know that it makes you feel, so thats why you do it. I think you need to check out different therapist not all are a like. I would go in and tell them you are not a big ball of happiness that you are a mess, that you are depressed and have anxiety, and low self esteem. That you are bullied at school and have been abused. This is nothing to be happy go lucky about. It is serious and you need to find a way to get through it. I hope you can stay off alcohol, it will make things worse not better I know because I tried to self medicate with alcohol myself and all it got me was drunk and in trouble, lol I hope u can find yourself some help. Seek medical attention before you are so bad you have to go into the hospital. Good luck I wish you the best young one. Blessings!

I'm pregnant and want to keep it but my boyfriend wants me to get an abortion. What do I do?

Q. Im 17 years old and I'll be 8 weeks pregnant on July 1st(I'm due February 10th 2012).. and my boyfriends 20 years old... I don't want to lose him but I don't want to lose the baby ive already created a little bond, and i don't believe in abortions... Hes never had a real job he just does mountain biking videos for friends and gets paid for it, but has no steady income.. I work about 20-30 hours at a clothing store and plan to finish high school online this summer, and go to hair school in september.. He says if I keep the baby that hes going to leave me and his child and doesn't want to look back, and if he comes around its cause he feels like he has to not because he wants to... I'm scared to have a kid at such a young age and being a single mother (I'm not sure how I'd be financially) but I know I could do it and that I'd be a great mother (I've always had that motherly instinct(I played with dolls till I was 13.. LOVED THEM!!)).. Any help or advice is much appreciated!! Thanks for reading this and responding!!

Answer
aww :] little baby :] im 17 weeks pregnant today. im 16 my boyfriend is 20. luckly we both wanted to keep it :]. and its a sad situation you in :[ im with you abortion is not something i would personally do. but i am pro choice if a women wants it they have the right. its your body your little baby your carrying so its your decision. but he has a decision to. he can leave. but if you dont think you can afford a baby there is the option of adoption (i wouldnt personally do it) there is open adoption, semi-open adoption, and closed adoption. and there are support groups. im in wic (helps you out with the baby). my boyfriend is on social security. so we have a bit of money coming in. a baby is the greatest gift (in my opinion) and it is normal to be scared, im terrifide but its an exciting thing:] so its worth it. hopefully your mother is supportive because she will be your best-friend. dont let him control your life. its not fair. it would be like having a bond with your new puppy and him taking it away and killing it. it would be sad. and the emotional scar after an abortion is horrible. it can also damage your chances of getting pregnant in the future. and sorry to say but chances are if he is threating to leave now, he probably wont stay.

which is more important baby or a boy?

Put a fake mouse on a string and tie it to the inside of a cabinet your mom opens frequently so when she opens cabinet string will pull mouse towards her.

How do I stop kids/teens from biking through my yard?

Very kid friendly neighborhood, lots of sidewalks, parks, etc. My house backs up to a street that has an adjacent sidewalk. Recently, teens and kids have started biking through my yard to get to the road/sidewalk, even though the bike path and trails are less than 1/5 mile away. They're starting to ruin my yard, and fences aren't allowed due to HOA regulations. How do I deal with this? I was thinking about putting down nails, but that can mess up my lawnmower. Ideas? Help!

Answer
Contact the HOA and ask them what you *can* do to stop the traffic. Complain that it's ruining your yard and they shouldn't be trespassing on your property in the first place. HOA members are usually pretty much jerks when it comes to someone breaking the HOA rules. I'm sure they would be all over this (those little old ladies love nothing more than enforcing stupid rules on people, especially kids).

And, don't put down anything like a nail strip. If one of the kids gets hurt, you will be liable.

How to deal with a really hyper 14 year old son?

Dixie Land

He might be ADHD, we're going to get him checked. But in the meantime, how do I deal with a kid this hyper? He's always moving around and almost never sits still. What do I do?

Answer
sounds like a normal growing boy to me.

I recently heard on tv that 70% of those who are diagnosed with ADD or ADHD do not have it.

Kids are naturally full of energy they are growing all the time. Any parent can see that. He needs to burn off his energy. If you think back to the 1800s boys at 14 were working all day long beside their dad on the farm. When they were not working they doing other boyhood things OUTSIDE playing. They rarely sat down except to fish or eat or sleep.

Get him into sports, get a physical fun hobby like buying bikes for the family. Take family rides after dinner.

its downhill bmx racing
i raced in a REAL race

Answer
For what kind of racing? Road bikes, mountain bikes, cyclocross bikes, BMX bikes, what?

You're quote, "i have raced before so im not a beginner." Raced against who - some kid down the street? If you have raced before & were all that knowledgeable, that last place you would come for advice would the Internet seeking out complete & random strangers.
