What is the best folding bicycle for around $200?

jasonivana

i'm looking for a cheap folding bike that is kind of quick. i dont care about weight or size. i'm 5"11" i was looking at the Schwinn loop and the out of stockl Gekko's but its hard to find reviews on them.

Answer
at that price range, there's gonna be a lot of compromises.
I have the Gekko and it's perfect for short rides but then I bought it for the kids. folding snobs look down on my gekko due to it's folding size and weight but I like the way it folds. I don't have to wrench my back to fold it, I just push down on the seat.
The only major Folding brand in that range is Dahon and their boardwalk S1 is $210 where I live.
Below that pricepoint are the stuff like Zport and Kent. they look good but I'm concerned about their frame geometry.
the bottom bracket looks like it's behind the center line of the seatpost. (this is for the Kents)
The Zports are $140 where I live and I would of bought one if I didn't find my gekko. but I would do more research on them, their tire size is 18in not the common 16/20 and their rear brakes are band brakes.
Or, you could be the guinea pig and get the Loop, it looks nice and from one description the weight is about 30lbs.
have fun and good luck, you'll be amazed at how much fun a foldie could be.

Best place to buy a bicycle online?

Rick

I realize that the best place to buy a bike would be from a local bike shop, but the closest shop is more than fifty miles away from me and I have no way of getting there. The only alternative would be to buy a pre-assembled bike from Wal-Mart which I'd never do for obvious reasons. So does anyone know of a good place to buy a bike online? I'd rather pay extra and receive a properly assembled and calibrated bike by post.

Answer
Amazon.com I would say would be the best place. You can look at what others reviewed about the bikes and you can also get a warranty. I have an older model of this bike that's on Amazon and it's amazing!
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B008O2FUNS/gepcpr-20

The Diamondback Brand Mountain Bike really will just glide under your feet and absorb the bumbs, it's worth every penny!

You can also check out your local pawnshops, but I would look into the ones near the college campuses. Here in Austin, TX the ones near the campuses have brand new bikes kids pawned off to get beer money and party supplies.. or bills had to be paid.

Happy Hunting! ^_^

Does adding a bike trailer with 2 kids effect the use of a bicycle motor?

hulahula

I am thinking about getting one of those bicycle motor kits for my bike. I also have a trailer to pull my kids on the bike. Would the extra weight (about 90lbs for 2 kids and trailer) effect the performance of the motor.

Answer
just like trucks, the size of the engine has hauling limits. also, as noted, you still have to contribute your own power..

a child carrier or bicycle trailer?

annakalb

which is better and safer for my 1 1/2 year old to ride with me?

Answer
I too have a Honda Civic and the Schwinn brand trailer folds to 3" flat on the floor of the trunk.

I carry a 4 yr old and 2 yr old grandsons in the trailer. The kids love it. They don't have to be enclosed in warm weather as the top acts as a convertible.

On cinder bike paths you will want a rear fender on the bike to keep the dirt from flinging up on your child.

As to what BobA said about the stability... I did drop my bike with the trailer attached. I got stitches in my leg. The kids sat there worried about me. They were fine, the trailer never lifted a tire. Can't say that about rear rack mounted seats.

Look around you can even find a fantastic deal on used trailers that are like new. Kids simply out grow them.

Overwhelmed with 3 kids under 2 y.o?

zenzen

I had two kids 6 and 2 year old and couldn't have another because of the medical reasons so we ended up adopting a sibling group and 1 and 2 year olds. Now I doubt if we made the right decision adopting 2 kids and once because 3 kids under age of 2 is more than difficult. We we told by our adoption agency the older girl is 4 and is is so not 4, she was barely 2 when we met her.

Adopted kids came with a number of medical issues which took us about 6 month to treat them. After a few surgeries and many rounds of drugs they seem to be quite healthy and doing well. We kind of settled in our routine and they got more used to us and their behavior got better but even now it is overwhelming. I don't have anybody to help me during the day and my husband has a long commute and comes home at 8pm when kids go to bed.

I have to drive my 6 year old to school and pick him up every day (takes about 30 minutes round trip twice a day), then I drive my 2 year olds to pre-school twice a week for a half-day. I have to feed them lunch, read to them, change 3 sets of diapers, put them for a nap, go to pick up my older son, do homework with him, cook dinner, feed them, play with kids, wash them and put everybody to sleep. It feels more like running a daycare than having a family, my kids are sweet but due to their young age and attachment issues are very demanding and difficult. I don't even have time to clean the house anymore during the day--I do it when everybody sleeps. One of the worst for me things is taking 3 kids under 2 to public places such as doctors offices, grocery stores, libraries, etc. I always worry somebody will get run over on the parking lot. I also get tired of people looking at us like we are a zoo and not a family and making all kinds of comments especially because of skin colors don't watch and I'm pushing a giant triple stroller with 3 toddlers. I resent my decision to adopt because now it worsened the quality of our lives as a family. Before we had plenty of time for walks, bike ride, movies, theater, play-dates with friends, now it's all gone. I also have very little time to interact with my older son and take him to his activities and sports. It seems to me all I do is take care of basic needs of children: cook, clean, change, drive and repeat. And all they do is scream, run away, make messes and don't listen. I have become a lot less patent with kids than I used to be and I don't like that a single bit. I find it very hard to cope.
Can anybody else have 3 kids under 2 y.o. and one older kid do a good job as a parent without anybodies help and not lose their sanity and not resent children?

Answer
First of all, you did a wonderful thing adopting those two kids! It has always been my dream to adopt as many children as I could possibly support. Right now I have two year old twin boys, a 1 year old daughter, and another one on the way, AS WELL as taking care of my sister's two kids, age 1 and 3 during the day (they go home around 8pm and come at 6am). I am changing FIVE sets of diapers every single day, and it is the worst part...

They all play together and for the most part they get along...but you know toddlers. Their favorite words are "mine" and "no".

This is how I do it: Morning time, everybody gets a diaper change. EVERYbody. Even if they aren't that wet, because it means there is a large possibility that in an hour or so, they will ALL need diaper changes again at the same time. Then, I make breakfast. I cater to my kids so I don't hear five screaming kids about the food. Jasper likes oatmeal every morning. EVERY morning. James likes pancakes, waffles, that sort of stuff (store-bought of course). Jolynn will usually eat oatmeal, but sometimes she is in the mood for canned biscuits. My sister's kids are easy and eat kix or Cheerios or any kind of cereal really. I make a schedule and switch around foods for them, letting THEM choose from a list of what they want to eat.

By that time it's about 7am, and usually the twins will go back to sleep until 9 and the two 1 year olds will too, leaving me and the 3 year old to watch TV or start thinking about lunch or just...cleaning if we want to. Let me tell you. My house is a wreck and I don't clean as often as I would like to...

Anyway, so now it's about 9 and all the kids are getting up. The twins want a warm bottle and the 1 year olds want juice, and the 3 year old wants soda, but I tell her no and give her juice instead (this is an every day thing). So as the kids are waking up, they watch some JoJo's circus or something educational (usually, or Sponge Bob). Then they start to play. They have free roam of my bottom floor, as it is child-proofed. There is a gate keeping them downstairs and out of the kitchen, but they can do whatever they please in the rest of the area. The toy box is in the toy room, there is nothing for them to climb onto, and NO small parts for the babies. I take this time while they are playing to refill all the bottles with water and fold some laundry or think more about what to make for lunch.

All my kids are vegetarians, but my sister's kids are not. My kids are okay with cheese sandwiches for lunch, but my sister's kids prefer hot dogs or prepared kids meals that just have to be heated up. So they eat chicken nuggets or sometimes I get lucky and they'll eat what the other kids are eating. We are only organic with my kids, so when I can get them to eat healthy, I try.

They are constantly snaking throughout the day. Piece of banana here, apples there, yummy kiwi smoothies sometimes :-) Diapers are constantly being changed. As soon as I smell poop, everybody gets a diaper change, or if somebody is wet, everybody gets a diaper change because chances are, they all need one anyway.

And then after lunch they go back to playing. The twins and my 1 year old will sleep until 3, and my sister's kids might take a nap until 2 or sometimes 3. While they are sleeping, I pick up a bit, putting stuff back in it's place or cleaning up juice off the floor.

We eat dinner around 6pm, again, I cater to them, letting them choose what they want from a list we keep. That way they think they are making their own decisions and you have a list of food you are comfortable making.

Just make lots of schedules and stick to them. Make dinner schedules and stick to them. Prepare everything on Sunday when the kids have done down for bed. Make a list of what you need to accomplish that week, with room for innovations, as something always comes up.

You can do this.

What age do kids typically start to learn to ride a bike?

Mikey's Mo

Sorry for such a silly question, but I'm just not sure.

I have a new toddler bike with training wheels for my niece. She is 2 now (3 in September). I'm not sure if she'll be able to start riding this summer, or if I should wait until her birthday or Christmas to give her the bike so she can ride next summer. Or, is 3 even too young?

Thanks in advance!

Answer
She can probably start riding now, depending on the size of the bike. You want a bike that is correctly sized. A child will go through several bikes. There is not a one size fits all. My kids are on their fourth set of bikes and they are 8 & 9. They began riding at 2 1/2. One was riding without training wheels at 3 1/2 and the other at 4 1/2.

I was without training wheels at 3 1/2 too.

It's easier when they are young. They have less of a fear. Only with age do we develop fear.

Need a name for my movie?

John

The movie is about a kid whose mom dies and so he moves to another town where his dad struggles to reach a stable relationship with him. The kid then meets new friends and become involved in some "mobster-like" activities. The movie is about the transformation from his innocence to a more angry kid (for lack of a better word). Towards the end of the movie he rebuilds his relationships while destroying those with his new home.

Answer
That's almost the exact plot of The Kid With a Bike (2011).

Maybe name it after the kid in a vague way like The Kid With a Bike did.

Is there a difference between a fixed gear bike and a kids bike that has only one gear?

cabsmommy

Answer
Yup. With a fixed gear bike, when you pedal backwards, the rear wheel will spin backwards. Not pedaling would stop you. The gear is essentially attached to the hub.

A single-speed bike, like a kids bike, has a freewheel, so when you aren't pedaling, or pedaling backwards, the rear wheel still rolls. In other words, the drivetrain only engages when the gear rotates in one direction

what is a fixed gear bike?

krissy

what is it and why do all emo kids ride them?

Answer
A fixed gear bike is a bike that only has one gear (and no way to change gears even if there were more than one gear) and no freewheel. That means that as long as the rear wheel is moving, the pedals are also going around, which in turn means that you always have to keep your feet moving when the bike is moving -- even downhill. Most fixies (as they're called) also don't have any brakes as brakes are not really needed.

As for why all the emo kids are riding them, I can't really answer that because I'm living halfway around the world where there are no emo kids. But from what I've been reading in cycling mags, fixies are very popular right now; they're a fad and the emo kids probably think they are cool for riding them.

trouble putting front tire on kids bike?

I just bought a new 16" bike for my 5 year old. Some assembly is required and that's normally not an issue at all. The front tire, however, does not fit on the fork(the fork is too narrow). anyone have any tips? The bike is a very basic girls Pacific Twirl.

Answer
You will need to pull them apart a little, most cheap bikes are like that. If it looks bent take it back, but most of the time you will have to spread the forks.

Helen S

Looks like the 16 ince wheel bike is the right size, but other info says, buy a 20 inch bike. So which is right? Going to look at used at peoples homes and don't want to waste time looking at the wrong sizes. Help!

Answer
There is a little truth in some answers but... I have 2 young daughters on the small side and have decades of biking experience soooo...

16" is a very small bike. Height is the factor but if your kid is of average height you want a 20" bike. Most all kids ride 20" by 7 for sure. Both my petite girls had 20" bikes at 7. My older one needed a 24" at 10. Kids grow fast, never get a bike they can barely ride now as they will be too big for it by August.

Where can i get a bike cheap for a small kid?

Answer
Look on the local ebay ans Craig's list for a good quality used bike. You may have to go with a bike with 24 inch wheels for a proper fit. Have your Dad go with to check out the bikes. You can also try the local Goodwill and Salvation Army stores.

How do you get home schooled in Canada?

best kids bikes canada on bmx image by claude wolf from Fotolia.com
best kids bikes canada image

Albert

I might be moving to Canada soon and i was just wondering how can you get home schooled there?

Answer
Hi. I'm in Canada, too. Canada is a very homeschool friendly country. The province of Alberta, where I live, even provides funding for materials and classes and so on. There are several ways to go about it. There's "traditional" homeschooling. That's where you are off the grid and do whatever you choose. Many unschoolers choose this route. There's "aligned". That's where you are following a provincially sanctioned curriculum and you are more closely monitored to ensure you are achieving the standards. This kind gets the most funding, but it's really hard to do, because all subjects must be accounted for, even electives. Then there's "blended". That's what we are. Some of your subjects are aligned to the provincial standards and the rest are your own business. You still get a fair amount of funding for it. You normally sign up under a supervising board, who handle your funding, keep an eye on your progress, provide provincial testing for aligned subjects and help you if you need it. They also provide TONS of activities, sports, workshops, picnics, arts classes and so on. My kids have done the coolest stuff this year. Many of the activities have been removed from our public schools due to their "risk factor", but our kids still get to do them. This year, my kids did archery, kayaking, trampoline, fencing, climbing, zip lining, downhill mountain biking and wind surfing. What province are you moving to?

Do I have to wear a helmet when riding my bike to high school just over a kilometer away?

quackfeet

Is it against the law in British Columbia Canada to not wear a helmet? It is in an average size town, not big at all- like no city just one town area. And like it isn't on the main road really or anything.

Answer
Forget the law, just wear the helmet.

Think about it, most of the drivers around you will be inexperienced teenagers.

Motorists are just as stupid, and the pavement just as hard regardless of your distance from home. The majority of my close calls are at the residential intersection 50 yards from my house - housewives yapping on the phone while driving the kids to school (500 meters away), lawyers, judges, and cops speeding and running the stop sign while taking the shortcut to the courthouse.

That said, I wouldn't bother taking the bike out of the garage for that short a distance. I'd walk.

I want a seat for my bike for my son to ride on but I'm looking for the kind that goes in front of me. I can't find one anywhere. What is a good brand and does any one know what the weight limit is?

Thanks!

Answer
Wee rider is the only brand name that I'm aware of. They are pretty expensive though. Weight limit is 18 kg (40 lb).

http://weeride.com.au/.
http://weeride.com/

There are a few no name nock offs that are cheaper you can usually find these on Ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/New-Front-Mounting-Baby-Child-Bicycle-Seat-Carrier-CSFR_W0QQitemZ350050258551QQihZ022QQcategoryZ7295QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Fitting one of these will make it hard to climb. I also expect you might have to adjust your pedaling "knee" style.

They would probably be fine for short trips and you will enjoy chatting with the lad more.

My tip would be to talk louder and get a trailer. There is a heap more room for the accompanying toddler baggage and they don't effect your bikes handling anywhere near as much.

I'm not keen on the rear mount mainly because the child's view is dominated by the parents bum.

Both the "on bike" options are probably safer if you need to ride in heavy traffic.

What to use for a 14wk baby and 2 yr old in a bike trailer? Helmets too big and car seat won't fit!?

Aimee

I have a bike trailer for my two babies but I don't know how is best to keep my 14week old safest. A helmet won't fit until at least 18 months and her car seat won't fit in with my 2 year old as well :0( Don't want to be stuck in a stuffy, hot car all summer so would really like to keep fit and take them out on the bike! Help!! Thanks in advance :0)

Answer
The infant in the car seat cannot ride with the toddler -- so just get a bicycle child seat http://www.amazon.com/Bell-Classic-Bicycle-Child-Carrier/dp/B000ISXSSA for the toddler -- kid will be much happier being up there behind you and watching around the road. Also should be available at Target, locally.

How do you stop a bike chain from rusting?

Dyslexia o

All my kids have bikes. We have no room in the house for them and no garage or carport. THe chains have all gotten pretty rusty from the rain and stuff.
How can we get rid of the rust?
How can we prevent it from happening again?

Answer
First, if the bikes aren't covered or protected for example under a porch, or in your basement, or an unused room buy some heavy plastic sheets (8X8) at your local Ace Hardware and cover them. Second, buy some WD40 lubricant and spray this on the chain. Then while holding the rear wheel off the ground crank the pedals and wipe the oil and dirt off the chain using an old rag (repeat several times). Lastly lubricate the chain with a good light weight oil. Suggestions "3 & 1" oil, light machine oil, or SAE Grade 5W or 10W motor oil. You don't want a heavy coat. A good light coat should do it. Avoide lithium grease as it collects dirt.

What campground is best to camp at, at the Grand Canyon?

mommyem

My husband and I are taking our 4 little kids (1-7 years old) camping at the Grand Canyon next month in June. I'm just wondering what campground we should stay at? We would like somewhere with running water and flush toilets, and other stuff like that. You know the easy, convenient way to camp. We will be sleeping in a tent and need room for parking a minivan and small utility trailer. We would like someplace not too busy but also want fun activities and to be close to stuff to see. Thanks for any good answers!

Answer
Here's a couple of recommendations for Grand Canyon South Rim:

1. Kaibab Lake Campground - It's near the juncture of 1-17 & Hwy 64 at Williams going north to the Canyon. It's about 60 miles from the Park gate but the setting is beautiful and you've got a lake. Campsites have all you need.

2. Mather Campground - Just inside the Park gates. Call in advance as it can book quick. Great value. Has bathrooms, running water. It's also near the in-Park supermarket. Bike paths aplenty. Easy access to shuttle buses.

That'll get you started.

I'm planning to move with my wife to Toronto, Ontario. and id like to know the average expenditures per month. no kids or pets, just two couples. and we are looking for studio type as a beginning. it can be out of city but near by transportation

Answer
For a basic apartment, rent will cost you between $800 and $1200, depending on the area you choose to live (downtown is rediculously expensive). Some places have utilities and water all included, this is a great option if you can find it, it just makes everything way easier. I can't say how much these will cost you otherwise since I try to only live in places where it's included. If you find an apartment in a building, I highly recommend doing some research before commiting. Some buildings have bad pest problems (I've had to deal with this, it's a huge hassel)

A basic cell phone plan will cost you about $30 each, more or less depending on the company you choose to go with. I recommend avoiding the bigger companies like Bell and Rogers, they're overpriced with bad customer service. Phones obviously are optional, but a good idea if you are job hunting. Internet can be bundled into your phone plan and will cost an additional $25-50. Some apartments even offer free wi-fi, so this may not be needed

If you're thrifty and good with budgeting, you can get away with $200 a month for groceries for two people. Check out fruit markets for cheaper and fresher produce, and bulk stores for staples like beans and rice. Herbs are easy to find and starting a small herb garden will save you some money too. If you choose to rent a house with a private backyard, it's legal to grow your own vegetables. Farm animals are not allowed within the city though

Transportation costs will vary depending on your lifestyle. The public transportation offers a monthly pass for $126 that offers unlimited travel within city limits, this is a good option if you choose to take the bus or subway everyday. Downtown has lots of bike lanes so biking is farely easy too. Cars are extremely expensive to own here though. Vehicle insurance is mandetory in Canada, and that alone could cost you about $300 a month in Toronto (with a good record, if you have any accidents or tickets, it will be more). Most apartments also will charge you to park your car, which is usually about $50 a month that is added to your rent

That's all I can think of right now, hope it helps though.

Where's the best place in Michigan to take a summer vacation?

DGS

We're interested in the beach, kayaking, hiking and biking trails, perhaps an amusement park day for the kids. Would like to keep it within a day's drive of Pittsburgh/Youngstown if possible.

Answer
I live in Ohio and have looked into this from time to time. I never quite made the trip. I always went elsewhere. But, I think I can give you a little bit of help.

From what I read in my research on the web and in the library, the Upper Peninsula looks a lot better place than the lower section. The Porcupine Mountains State Park looked fantastic. The Apostle Islands also looked great. There are supposed to be great places to go kayaking to the islands up there.

I have heard that there are some good places to hike in the Lower section of the state. I used the book "50 Hikes in Michigan" for research.
I was going to go to Sleeping Bear Dunes and some other places in the book. There is also a nice place to get a cabin in the northeastern section of the Lower part of the state. You'll have to consult the book for that. The author said it wasn't crowded, was inexpensive and was a nice place to go.

The Au Sable River in the lower part of the state is supposed to be good for canoeing. Some friends of mine did this with their family and had a very good time.

If the Upper Peninsula is a little bit too far, or if you are open for an alternative trip, I would recommend going to the Bruce Peninsula and the small town of Tobermory in Canada. I went up there in May one year and totally enjoyed it.

It is an easy drive - less than a day. There is sea kayaking, some parks to hike in, some nice small (non-national chain) hotels and restaurants.

Be sure to do the coastal hike in Bruce Peninsula National Park.
Get a hiking guide to the Bruce Trail.
Take the boat ride to Flower Pot Island.
Take the glass-bottom boat rides to see the old wooden ships sunken in the harbor from the 1700/1800s. The water preserves them.
I am pretty sure that you can rent bikes up there.

I stayed in a small hotel, but you can camp in the parks.
It was a nice experience to go up there mostly because the locals were very friendly. I went just before the main tourist season, though.

On the drive up there, go through Niagara Falls and stop and see the butterfly greenhouse.

Best of luck and have fun wherever you go.

Especially if you've never really had any experience with it besides little toddler rhymes .

Answer
the best way to understand poerty is to read a-lot of it...read it out loud...let the words paint a picture for your mind to see. start with small , short, poems. read a couple doctor seuss books. then get a literature book and go for the poems. read hiku's and (a-b-a) rhymes' .
the next step after you familiarize yourself with poems and poets...try writing some of your won...start small, (roses are red..ect,) then move your way up to more complicated and intricate similies and rhymes.
you will really enjoy it if you push yourself a little, it's complicated at first, but it's like riding a bike..once you get the hang of it, you will never forget.

How do you teach your kid to pedal riding toys?

eaglewanna

We have bought our four year old son a toddler bike with training wheels but he refuses to pedal and only makes a half-heared attempt at it.

Answer
The wheels on most bikes turn when the wheels move. Just put his feet on the pedals and then push him around. He probably doesn't like having to work it himself. But if he sees how fun it can be, he'll probably get motivated and want you to stop pushing him so he can do it himself. Try it on the driveway where it's easier to pedal.

Is there a trailer for 3 kids? Would it be ok to have a "trail-a-bike" type option then connect a trailer to that? Or get a child seat plus the trailer? Kids are 4 mos, 2.5 yrs, and 5 yrs old.. The 5 yr old can ride a bike, but very slowly and not very far.. Thanks!

Answer
You have a few option, although I agree with those who mention 4 mos may be a little young for any kind of biking. The only way I would bike with infants is if I can either carry them very close to me, or if I can strap them into a reclined seat where they don't have to fully support their head while going over bumps etc.

In Denmark they often ride with the youngest in a front basket or cargo bay laying down in blankets.

I've tried my kids in trailers at 9 mos and found it didn't work for me with any of them because I couldn't watch how they were doing and couldn't attend to their needs at all without stopping, dismounting etc. AND until over a year they didn't do well enough with head control. The trailers actually ride fairly jouncy and bumpy because the kids are sitting right on top of the wheels.

Moving on....

I have seen people do the tag along and the trailer, but for regular use it seems to long and unwieldy to me.

I'd go the cargo bike / long tail route: Madsen Cycles has a model that seats 4 with seat belts (takes the optional extra seat to get to 4 - standard is 2) http://www.madsencycles.com/

Does anybody have recommendations on places to stay in Ashland, Oregon that are kid friendly?

kgirl

Six of us (including two infant children) are planning a trip to Ashland. I know that the area is not usually a place that people go to with children but we're going to take turns watching the kids so we can see some shakespeare. =) Does anybody have recommendations on where to stay that is kid friendly?

Answer
I work for a travel agency in Medford and we recommend the Village Inn in Ashland for families. The rooms are spacious, good location, reasonable rates. They have free bikes, not sure if they have have the attachment for infants though. There are reviews on this trip advisor website:
tripadvisor.in/Hotel_Review-g29998-d95891-Reviews-The_Village_Suites_at_Ashland... - 115k
La Quinta is also nice, with an indoor pool just a bit further out of town.
Southern Oregon is a friendly place, Ashland caters to travelers visiting for Shakespeare.

I need advice on purchasing a quality bike for an eight year old girl. One who loves to ride. She is moving up from her twenty inch bike. Any suggestions on twenty-four inch wheel bikeshop bike that is under $180? Or on a department store/sporting goods store bike that is of the same quality as bike shop bike.Would prefer the cruiser type bike to the mountain bike type, but quality level and reliabilty are most important factors. Thanks for the help!

Answer
Excellent opportunity to buy a lightly used bike. Kids don't normally fit this size bike for more than 2 years. By the time they turn 10-11 yrs old, they will be in a 26 inch wheeled bike (unless they are short). With your budget, you will get a better bike too. A decent bike shop quality bike will be over 200US.

Regarding the first answer being too young for a 24? My boys were on very comfortably on 24" wheels at 7 yrs old. They looked like circus clowns on toy bikes when they tried to ride 20" wheeled bikes at that age (other than BMX).....but I would agree that a fitting would be in order, or at least go shopping with the kids height/proportions at hand so you know what to get.

What is the longest distance a 6 year old has ridden a mountain bike?

My son just learned how to ride his bike in may(no training wheels) and to day he rode 11 miles confirmed by witness so I was wondering just what is the world record.

Answer
I am not sure of the world record(not even sure if there is one), but can attest that my kids (who have been riding with me their whole lives) my son at 5 did 28 miles( he did many 20+ mile rides). My daughter at 6 did 24. As long as they enjoy the ride, eat right, and they aren't hurting they will be fine. Let them be their own gauge, that has seemed to work well for us.

looking to make a bike trailer my son can sit in while i ride my bike please help me any ideas?

Answer
Consider the makeup of the frame. Road bikes can be found with different frame materials. Steel is the cheapest frame material, but aluminum offers a lighter frame. Consider your riding goals and habits. If you cruise around the neighborhood, the steel-framed bike may be your most economical choice. If youâre logging long miles, lighter aluminum frames may be better.â¨The best cheap road bikes include models of Trek, Schwinn, Tomasso, and Raleigh.

I would like to start bike riding to shed some baby weight what are the best bike trailer/bike combos?

i need a bike and want to buy a bike trailer, what type of bike should be used?

Answer
- how much do you want to/can you spend?
- what kind of trailer - cargo or kid?
- how long and where do you want to ride (urban/country, flat/hilly/mountainous)?
- commuting or sports/training?
- what's your weight - and do you do any kind of sports?
- are you fixed on a bike/trailer combo, or would a (two or three wheeled) bakfiets be a practical alternative?

Unless you want to lay down at least 4k$/â¬, there's no sense in talking about 'best'. You can start thinking about 'good' (enough for everyday use) with 2k$/⬠and either the willingness to learn basic maintenance or a friendly LBS within reach.

As a short guide to what I'd consider best (I'll just throw in a few buzzwords, use google or come back here if you want to know more):
- steel frame, touring geometry, Rohloff dropouts
- Rohloff internal geared rear hub
- SON front hub generator
- Edelux front bike light, b&m rear light
- Magura hydraulic disc brakes
- disc brake rims, Schwalbe Marathon Supreme tires in 26x2.00, DD stainless spokes
- Brooks leather saddle
- closed chain box, e.g. Hebie Chainglider

That'll cut down the yearly maintenance to the gear oil change and regular inspection (and occasional exchange) of brake pads and chain.

- Weber hitch
- brand trailer - for kids, Chariot or Croozer, for cargo, Roland or Carry Freedom
