I'm not sure whether to buy the new style toddler bike seats such as those at: http://www.weeride.com.au/ or the more traditional style that sits on the back of the bike.
I know they don't take as much weight, but thats about the only negative I can see so far.
Any feedback on them for those that have them?

Many parents like the top tube mount seats because of the "closeness" with the child. Being able to talk easier. Having their arms around -- to protect the child so to speak.
Like you said the seat isn't rated for as much weight, but they also have a size limitation. The larger child should be behind you, especially if the parent is petite.
If you get the rear seat the child can ride in it longer, say from 1 yr to 4+ years old. Usually, somewhere between 4 and 5 the kid learns to ride a bike on their own.

Should I buy a toddler bike seat that fits in front of me or behind me?

I had thought about that same question this summer and decided on one that sits behind me because for 2 reasons: one you can use them longer (up to 40 lbs) and the other being that my daughter is so curious if she sat in front she would be messing with all the gears and brakes while up front.
