1. Approximate cost for parcel

Bus Parcel! Thats the best way to send your bicycle, safe & economical. It reaches your destination in Kerala the next day!

Contact the private bus operators in Kalasipalayam Bus Stop. Make a good packing & advice the bus operator to keep in the front of the luggage area. Hope this helps you.

Parents of kids/teens that ride bicycles: Helmets?

.

If you and your kids/teens ride bicycles, do you wear helmets? Do your kids/teens wear helmets? Do you not care if they wear a helmet or not?

Thanks! I'm 16, and I would wear a helmet no matter what, but my friends don't because they say it looks ugly, but a girl who was 15 recently died from just riding casually on her neighborhood street (no cars) fell down without a helmet on and died from internal bleeding.

Answer
I always wear a helmet and make my kids wear helmets. In my state kids under sixteen legally have to wear helmets or the parent can get cited. It may be unfashionable safety is more important.

Is it important for my kid to know how to ride a bicycle?

Craziee Pa

He tried it and couldn't balance himself on the bike ( which is natural in the beginning). Now he is so frustrated, he is giving up and says he doesn't want to do it ever again.

Should I make him try again later on in the year?

Answer
Yes, I think every kid should be able to ride a bike. He might be frustrated and give up, but he might show interest again later. One thing lots of kids don't learn these days is to handle failure and to keep trying. My son was 4 when we bought him a bike with training wheels and he refused to even try it. Then we visited my parents and they had my brother's razor scooter there and he learned to ride that and had no reason to try a bike. Then one day, my husband decided that since he had such good balance on the scooter, he probably could ride a bike, so he took the training wheels off and went out in the front with my son (who was 5 then) and practiced with him a few times and he got it! He was so proud of himself for doing it. Now his 4-year-old brother has the bike with training wheels and I have a bike and a bike trailer, so now we go for family bike rides in the mornings a lot.

It's good exercise and I think it teaches children patience, endurance, and the will to keep trying. Be positive when he's ready, let him use training wheels if he wants, and always encourage. When he is successful, celebrate and take lots of pictures. He'll really feel proud of his accomplishment.

Kids bicycle that has some sort of motor in it?

kikelchris

My son's bday is coming up.... There is a kid in the neighborhood that is always riding a bicycle that is able to ride up a hill without him pedaling. I believe the bike builds up power from when he is pedaling and then uses the energy to go up hill when he stops. Well my son really wants this bike and I cannot find it anywhere. I do not even know what to call it which makes it a tough search. Please help!

Answer
gocycle

or

just make his bicycle electric (add an electric motor, etc.) with him as a father-son project

How to fix a flat tire in a kid bicycle?

My daughters 12 inch bicycle has a flat tire though i could not locate the puncture. How do i get it fixed? Taking the wheel out is itself a challenge on those bikes. Can someone help or have somilar experience?

Answer
This is a pretty good demonstration on how to fix a bike flat:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvuKlEnHVLc&feature=related

You will need tire levers, a patch kit or a new inner tube
Taking the wheel out isn't bad you just need a wrench an adjustable one is OK and loosen the two outer nuts on the axle. If it's a rear wheel with a coaster brake you also need a screwdriver to free it from the frame, and of course move the chain off the wheel.
To find the puncture, I put a little air in the tube and then put the tube in a bucket of water and see where the bubbles are coming from. If the leak is right on the seam you probably need a new tube as I haven't had much luck with patches applied to seam leaks. Once you see whats wrong with the tube look CAREFULLY to see what caused it whether broken glass, a thorn or even a spoke poking out too far. Take care of the cause and reinstall the inner tube.

It really isn't too hard. Those tires should come off pretty easily. If all else fails take it to a bike shop, the fix should be pretty cheap.

What bike should I get for my kid?

Ben

This morning I ran over my kids bicycle when I backed out of the driveway. I was thinking about getting him a walmart junk bike but I figured that maybe I should just go out and get him a good one instead. Are there any good aluminum framed BMX bikes for 7 year old kids? His destroyed bike is an 18" walmart Mongoose ship anchor.

Answer
Bike shops are usually the best place to get an entry level bike for any age. Sure the price will be more than a department store, but you will be getting a suitable vehicle as opposed to a disposable toy.

Childrenâs bikes are usually cheep and disposable no matter what. Some BMX companies (freestyle & race) have invested some money into making childrenâs bikes more reliable for performance. Childrenâs mountain bikes have come a long way as well. Expect these bikes to be more expensive than normal childrenâs bikes.

Take him to a bike shop and hook him up with whatever he likes that fits him. At 7 years old a bike is usually a bike. If you have money, buy it. If you donât find something in your price range at the bike shop, check out craigslist. Hook up with a few sellers that are selling something similar to the bike you found at the bike shop. Do some test riding, and low ball the best seller with cash.

If you donât know anything about bikes, take the craigslist bike back to the shop for a solid once over.

I hope this helped!
