The following healthy living recommendations will help you if youâre trying to lose weight, tone up your muscles, have aspirations of building lean muscle mass, are attempting to get a wash board stomach, or just want to feel better:

*1) Burn more calories then you're consuming everyday and measure your results using the following formula: Calories Consumed minus Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) minus Physical Activity minus the Thermic Effect of Food (TEF). A website that explains this formula in more detail and will help you determine how many calories you need to reach or maintain a certain weight is at http://www.primusweb.com/fitnesspartner/library/weight/calsburned.htm

Get an online, desktop, or cell phone diet and fitness calculator. This will allow you to easily calculate the above formula, set goals, log your daily calorie consumption, and register your physical activities.

Set realistic goals for your ideal body weight. Here are two websites that will calculate a suggested body weight:
Adults: http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm
Teens/Children: http://www.kidshealth.org/kid/exercise/weight/bmi.html

It is difficult and unhealthy to lose more than one or two pounds per week. There are 3,500 calories in a pound. If you eat 500 fewer calories per day for a week you will lose one pound. If you burn through exercise 500 more calories per day for a week you will lose one pound.

Here are two articles on how to break through a weight loss plateau:

*2) Eat natural and organic foods found on earth versus something created by a corporation to make money. Eat meals in small portions throughout the day and take a good multi-vitamin supplement.

Do not try fad diets or diet pills. Avoid âHigh Glycemic Load Carbsâ (sugar, pastries, desserts, refined starches such as breads, pasta, refined grains like white rice; high starch vegetables such as potatoes) and drink lots of water. Read this article for more information on high GL Carbs:

how to help acne scars?

frogskinsh

how can i help make them go away faster? or possibly make the rednedd fade away? without going to a dermatologist or getting lazer treatment.

Answer
Scars from acne can seem like double punishment â first you had to deal with the pimples, now you have marks as a reminder.

Is there anything you can do?

To understand scars, you need to understand acne. Acne refers to lesions or pimples caused when the hair follicles (or "pores") on the skin become plugged with oil and dead skin cells. A plugged follicle is the perfect place for bacteria to grow and create the red bumps and pus-filled red bumps known as pimples. (The usual bacteria that causes acne is called Propionibacterium acnes.) Hormonal changes during the teen years often cause increased oil production that contributes to the problem.

Acne comes in different forms:

mild acne, which refers to the whiteheads or blackheads that most of us get at various times
moderately severe acne, which includes red inflamed pimples called papules and red pimples with white centers called pustules
severe acne, which causes nodules â painful, pus-filled cysts or lumps â to appear under the skin
Most serious scarring is caused by the more severe forms of acne, with nodules more likely to leave permanent scars than other types of acne. The best way to deal with acne is to get treatment soon after the acne appears to prevent further severe acne and more scarring. If you have nodules, see your doctor or dermatologist for treatment.

If you have serious scarring from previous bouts with acne, there are some things you can do. One form of treatment is laser resurfacing, which can be done in the doctor's or dermatologist's office. The laser removes the damaged top layer of skin and tightens the middle layer, leaving skin smoother. This can take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour. The doctor will try to lessen any pain by first numbing the skin with local anesthesia. It usually takes between 3 and 10 days for the skin to heal completely.

Another method for treating acne scarring is dermabrasion, which uses a rotating wire brush or spinning diamond instrument to wear down the surface of the skin. As the skin heals, a new, smoother layer replaces the abraded skin. It may take a bit longer for skin to heal using dermabrasion â usually between 10 days and 3 weeks.

The newest form of treatment for acne scarring is called fractional laser therapy. This type of treatment works at a deeper level than laser resurfacing or dermabrasion, Because fractional laser therapy doesn't wound the top layer of tissue, healing time is shorter. Fractional laser therapy is quite costly, and it's not usually covered by insurance.

A person's acne will need to be under control before having any of these treatments.

Depending on the severity of the acne scars, the doctor or dermatologist may also suggest a chemical peel or microdermabrasion to help improve the appearance of scarred areas. These milder treatments can be done right in the office.

Sometimes doctors inject material under the scar to raise it to the level of normal skin. Finally, in some cases, a doctor may recommend surgery to remove deeply indented scars.

One thing you shouldn't do to deal with acne scars is load up your face with masks or fancy lotions â these won't help and may irritate your skin further, making the scars red and even more noticeable.

If you have a red or brownish mark on your face that you got from a bad zit, have no fear â it will eventually fade, just like the scars you had on your knees after you fell off your bike when you were a kid. However, it may take 12 months or longer â so your best bet is to avoid these kinds of marks by not squeezing or popping your zits, no matter how tempting it may seem.

Can you get a decent motorcycle for $2,500?

Q. I know nothing of motorcycles...but, I'm talking about something along the lines of a Harley Davidson Fatboy.
lol, supafly_fresh....like I said, I know nothing about motorcycles (that's why I'm asking here).

Answer
There is a perfect bike for you and its called the Kawasaki Ninja 250.

You can't get one new for that price but you can get a used one. You want to get one that has over 5000 miles or so (in my opinion) and here is why.

When you first get a bike like the Ninja you have to drive it very slow while it breaks in. Then there is some very costly maintenence (but needed) to do during/after the break in period.

You'll see some bikes that are used but they haven't even gone through the break in period and now the person is selling them??? Why??? Well, most likely they can't afford the $500+ or more that has to be spent on doing the maintenence after the break in. So try to find a bike (Unless you don't mind spending the extra money) that has gone through that break in period and the maintence.

I have put two links below. The top one is of a used ninja and the bottom one is the brand new 2008 Ninja but I must warn you, your mouth is going to water for that 2008 but its in the $3000+ range but thats for a new one! It will be easy to find a used one in your price range even if its a 2007.

I own a 2003 and its so dang fun. If you are looking to drive on freeways dont get the ninja 250 but get a 600 cc or more.

The cc is the power of the bike.
250 is good for any kind of street driving even 60+ mph driving but for freeways get a 600 cc bike. They are expensive to get unless you get a Suzuki Katana but those puppies weigh like 400-500 lbs or so. The Ninja is only a 300+ pounder which is pretty light.

Also you can rent the Ninja 250 if you don't mind plunking out $190 - $200 bux to test drive it. I saw online that you can rent bikes from certain rental agencies. Check out the links below and especially the top one. Look at the photos and also read the guys review.

I ended up getting a 250 after reading that and I do not regret it. I have had zero problems with it.

If you are going to get a bike I must tell you some things to look for ok? WIth bikes the tires are a lot more important for your safety than tires on cars per se...

I cannot stress enough the importance of having good tires.
Make sure there is lots of tread left and don't mess around with a bike that has bald tires, just move on and buy a different bike.

Also tires on bikes tend to be more expensive than car tires, I kid you not lol. I also own a mercedes and its more expensive to tune up a bike than it is my mercedes.

It's more expensive to get the oil changed on a bike than it is a car.

All that being said, for your first bike you will not regret a Ninja 250. Its cheap to maintain and very very very very VERY good on gas.

Ok bottom 2 links. Top one is the review of the 250 Ninja and the bottom link below it is the mouth watering pic of the 2008 ninja 250.

how effective are fuel additives?

top kids bikes reviews on Best Balance Bike Reviews - Wooden & Steel Kids Bikes CyclingWinter ...

Lou

are you going to recommend using these products?

Answer
Fuel prices may have stabilized, but they are still over the top. And drivers are taking drastic measures to cut costs. Some have taken to riding a bike. Others are dumping a "top secret" pill into their gas tanks..............No kidding...............Drivers are resorting to pills, powders, liquid additives and mechanical devices to pump up their gas mileage. Among them, according to the Federal Trade Commission, are magnets attached to the fuel line that "realign" fuel molecules.
Usually accompanying these products are manufacturers' promises of an increase in fuel efficiency by as much as 20 to 30 percent. Some claim the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has tested and endorsed their product.................................⦠be fooled by the hype

.<<<<<<<<<<<<<
The FTC has issued a warning saying that additives do not significantly increase fuel efficiency. Some may even damage your car's engine or cause substantial increases in exhaust emissions.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Adding substances other than gasoline to your tank can void your factory warranty, according to consumer reporter Phil Reed of Edmunds.com.While the EPA does evaluate and test products, government agencies do not endorse any gas-saving products for cars. The best way to fight high gas prices, says the FTC, is to drive efficiently and stay within posted speed limits. Avoid sharp starts and stops. Go easy on the gas pedal and brakes. The FTC also recommends using cruise control, avoiding unnecessary idling and combining errands to cut down on the number of short trips.

Anyone own Vtech Vflash or Fisher Price Smart Cycle?

Mrolendo

I'm debating between a Vflash or Smart Cycle for my daughter's 4th birthday, but my son had a Vsmile and it was junk we had nothing but problems with it. bought a 2nd one thinking we just got a bad one, and it was junk too. I hear Vtech has improved their systems but I went to toysrus and they had the Vflash marked down from $80 to $50 on clearance and had no games for it, so I'm worried they may be getting discontinued and I won't be able to find games and accessories. I haven't been able to find reviews on either toy online. I'm also worried she may be too young for both of them but thought if she could have fun tinkering with them now she would grow in them. Anyone own either of these, and are you willing to give me feedback on how pleased you are with it?? THANKS!!

Answer
The VFlash is old and is definately discontinued, thats why you can't find any software for it - on top of that V Tech never had alot of software titles for the console in the first place. Also it's for an older age group so it maybe too complicated for your daughter.

The V Smile has been redone and the new model is called the V Smile Motion - its the same idea as the V Smile except the controllers are wireless and run on motion sensors (V Tech is obviously trying to capitalize on the popularity of Nintendo Wii's wireless concept) and can connect to the internet for more dowloadable content. It can use all of the previous software from V Smile as well. It doesn't sound like too much of a HUGE difference to make me want to rush out a buy it personally.

The Smart Cycle is alright but a few of the downsides include -

1. The size, it's about the size of a small childs bike so you need to have the space to hook it up.

2. Even after a year on the market there are still not alot of software titles available - all I ever see are the same 6 games everywhere I go.

3. You need to follow the assembly instructions to the T or you will screw the whole thing up and won't be able to use it (until you call Fisher Price to get a replacement part)

All of them are good for kids ages 3-8 you just have to purchase the appropriate software for your childs age and skill level.

Personally I've always found Leap Frog to be the best option with the kids for electronic learning devices. We've used almost everything from the reading systems (Leap Pad) to Hand Helds (Leapster, L Max).

Leap Frop products are easy to use and understand, there is always plenty of selection available when it comes to software which is a bonus when dealing with 3 children in different ages and skill circles and overall the kids enjoy them and use them a lot more.

The V Smile and V Pockets we have collecting dust in the basement vs. the Leapsters we have in the car are a testiment to that.

Good luck.

What are my best options for toting three kids around with my bike?

Is there a trailer for 3 kids? Would it be ok to have a "trail-a-bike" type option then connect a trailer to that? Or get a child seat plus the trailer? Kids are 4 mos, 2.5 yrs, and 5 yrs old.. The 5 yr old can ride a bike, but very slowly and not very far.. Thanks!

Answer
You have a few option, although I agree with those who mention 4 mos may be a little young for any kind of biking. The only way I would bike with infants is if I can either carry them very close to me, or if I can strap them into a reclined seat where they don't have to fully support their head while going over bumps etc.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Bend,OR&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=40.460237,67.763672&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Bend,+Deschutes,+Oregon&ll=44.05157,-121.315155&spn=0.28771,0.529404&t=h&z=11 Front mounted seat.

In Denmark they often ride with the youngest in a front basket or cargo bay laying down in blankets.

I've tried my kids in trailers at 9 mos and found it didn't work for me with any of them because I couldn't watch how they were doing and couldn't attend to their needs at all without stopping, dismounting etc. AND until over a year they didn't do well enough with head control. The trailers actually ride fairly jouncy and bumpy because the kids are sitting right on top of the wheels.

Moving on....

I have seen people do the tag along and the trailer, but for regular use it seems to long and unwieldy to me.

I'd go the cargo bike / long tail route: Madsen Cycles has a model that seats 4 with seat belts (takes the optional extra seat to get to 4 - standard is 2) http://www.madsencycles.com/

*4) Get plenty of sleep. Sleep experts say most adults need between seven and nine hours of sleep each night for optimum performance, health, and safety.

*5) Educate yourself continually on health issues and make a life long commitment to good health. A great free publication is âDietary Guidelines for Americans 2005â. A reputable test you can take to measure your biological age is at http://realage.com
Look at all areas where you can enhance your health. For example, make improvements in the quality of the air you breathe. Review outdoor air quality forecasts where you live and get an indoor air purifier.
