What is a good (bicycle) seat for a toddler?

Me

I would want her in the front, if possible.

Answer
i goggled it and the weerike one sounds like the best (second link, first one is just of one thats also pretty good)
http://www.amazon.com/WeeRide-Kangaroo-Child-Bike-Seat/dp/B000FIH0EG/ref=tag_tdp_dp/105-1446507-8382860

What height should a toddlers bicycle be adjusted to?

z

Should her feet be able to touch the ground or only the pedals. If Her feet should touch the ground. Should it be just her tows or flat feet.
How high should the side wheels be? Should the bike be able to move from side to side, and how much?

Answer
sitting on seat and feet can go flat on ground=perfect height.

By "side wheels" do you men training wheels?
Assuming you do, they should be 4.5 to 5" across (high) and wobbling only a little bit so child gets feel for balancing--to learn how to balance.

(The "wobbling" will occur naturally. You needn't adjust "wobblocity")
Thus: "Training" wheels.
They'll put them on for you at bike shop.

I am looking for a good toddler seat for my bike that goes infront of me?

I want a seat for my bike for my son to ride on but I'm looking for the kind that goes in front of me. I can't find one anywhere. What is a good brand and does any one know what the weight limit is?

Thanks!

Answer
Wee rider is the only brand name that I'm aware of. They are pretty expensive though. Weight limit is 18 kg (40 lb).

http://weeride.com.au/.
http://weeride.com/

There are a few no name nock offs that are cheaper you can usually find these on Ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/New-Front-Mounting-Baby-Child-Bicycle-Seat-Carrier-CSFR_W0QQitemZ350050258551QQihZ022QQcategoryZ7295QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Fitting one of these will make it hard to climb. I also expect you might have to adjust your pedaling "knee" style.

They would probably be fine for short trips and you will enjoy chatting with the lad more.

My tip would be to talk louder and get a trailer. There is a heap more room for the accompanying toddler baggage and they don't effect your bikes handling anywhere near as much.

I'm not keen on the rear mount mainly because the child's view is dominated by the parents bum.

Both the "on bike" options are probably safer if you need to ride in heavy traffic.

What to use for a 14wk baby and 2 yr old in a bike trailer? Helmets too big and car seat won't fit!?

Aimee

I have a bike trailer for my two babies but I don't know how is best to keep my 14week old safest. A helmet won't fit until at least 18 months and her car seat won't fit in with my 2 year old as well :0( Don't want to be stuck in a stuffy, hot car all summer so would really like to keep fit and take them out on the bike! Help!! Thanks in advance :0)

Answer
The infant in the car seat cannot ride with the toddler -- so just get a bicycle child seat http://www.amazon.com/Bell-Classic-Bicycle-Child-Carrier/dp/B000ISXSSA for the toddler -- kid will be much happier being up there behind you and watching around the road. Also should be available at Target, locally.

How can you legally travel on a 50cc scooter with a toddler?

jeff_rulz_

It is legal in Missouri to drive without a license or helmet on a 50cc scooter and I would like to purchase one to cruise around town. However, I am concerned about how much I would use it. I would use it more frequently if I could legally carry my 3 year old with me. Just curious if it's legal and what I should get to protect him (other than a bicycle helmet).

Thanks!

Answer
A bicycle helmet will do NO good.
3 years simply isn't big enough.

I'm all for kids riding, my son sat behind me at 6. There are minimum requirements, even if not written into law (they are law elsewhere): Dedicated seat for passenger, dedicated footrest for passenger (which they must be able to use), handhold(s) for passenger. Helmet - and a styrofoam cooler is for beer, not pavement.
The passenger must be large enough (and understand enough) to be able to hold on. The helmet must fit properly - good luck finding a hat for the little melon.

I added an extra set of pegs for Jr. The law said he must reach, did not specify must be in original location.

Anyone have a bicycle seat for baby that you love?

I would love to get one for my 13 month old for this summer. Have the breeze in our hair and great exercise and freshness...I want the best for a good price, no more than $60 give or take. I am not sure what to look for. Any ideas or advice? I don't mind shopping online either, but I am not sure where to go and Google is just killin me today.

Also, a baby helmet too...?

Answer
I have absolutely no advice about what brand to get, I'm sorry. If you have a large sporting goods store near you that may be worth looking at. Chances are they would have some.

Mostly I'm just wanting to answer saying that I love the idea of a bicycle seat rather than a trailer. Everyone says that if you fall baby falls too, which is going to happen with a seat or a trailer. With a seat the baby is strapped in and protected on three sides like with a car seat. I'm more paranoid with the trailers. They make the bike longer, which means that you have more of an opportunity for a car or another bike to hit the trailer if they aren't paying attention. Plus if you fall on the bike the trailer is going to tip too, and often kids aren't as secured in them as they would be in a seat.

Here are two that I found on amazon. I think both look great, but for a younger toddler I would go with the one that has head support. The front mounted one looks like it would have better stability for the rest of the bike, but it looks a bit scary.
Good luck!

Where can I get a helmet for my 8 month old baby?

Jenna S

A friend just got me the child carrier seat for my bicycle and I need to know where to get a helmet. Thanks!
I have looked at Target, walmart, sports authority and none of them have helmets small enough for her.
I know it is not recommended to take them until they are one year of age however my daughter is walking on her own and I have spoke with her doctor and he thinks she is strong enough for me to take her.

Answer
It is not recommended that you take a child on a bike with you until they are 1 year or older . . . they are still developing good neck / back control and the weight of the helmet is not good for them.

http://www.bhsi.org/little1s.htm

Amazon has some helmets that you might be able to use when she is a bit bigger:

Do you ride your bicycle with your toddler?

Do you use a child seat or trailer? What brand/style? Any complaints/praises?

I have been researching and reading reviews and have no clue what would be ideal for us.

Answer
We have a Chariot and its the best thing ever! Its a trailer that converts to a jogger (you can also buy skiing and hiking attachments). They are lightweight, convert in a snap, fold down flat to fit in your car (wheels come off too), and are top quality from materials to design to engineering.

We use it for biking and outdoorsy things like going to the beach, the zoo, or for a trek in the woods.

They are very pricey, but they hold up extremely well, and they hold their value so you can sell it after using it for 5+ years and still get at least 1/2 your money back, probably more. Used ones are VERY hard to find around here. I couldn't find used so I splurged and got new and I am not disappointed.

I need to tone. What are some good exercises for being inside the house?

Dawn R

I have two toddlers so I can not go outside running or anything in this cold weather. I do not have a treadmill. I am happy with my weight, I do not need to lose anymore. I just want to tone everything and make it tighter. Please give me some exercises or dvd's or something that you have done and were successful with. Thanks!!

Answer
I am a mom as well and the reason I started training in home in because I know how hard it is to get away. I train other people in there homes now and they love it. here are a couple of dvd's and an exercise routine that I have given some of them. Gilad's total body fitness( he is on the fitness network, the quick start dvd for pilate's by Gaiam, and turbo jam multi pack( a little more advanced).
You cannot just do situps to help get rid of love handles or make your stomach flat, and you cannot get thinner thighs by just doing workouts for your thighs. If you were to look at a muscle anatomy picture, you will find that what we call love handles are simply our gluteus medius which goes up and connects to the external obliques and goes down to and forms the gluteus maximus which is connected to your lats. Doing the following will help with the entire area to tighten and tone up your muscles and help burn the fat around them. Hope all of this helps do lunges, stepup kickbacks, walking downhill, running, leg raises without weight or very light weight, yoga, push ups, lat pull downs, pull ups rowing, and deadlifts. All of this combined with a proper diet full of lean protein and carbs, and you should be in business. If you need anymore help email me. Do 3-4 sets and 15-20 reps of light âno weights at all.
