At the gym, do you notice certain body types gravitate to different machines?

Psychic Ha

Like 100-pound younger women tend to like the stair-climber type things. More muscular guys, if they aren't on weights, will do bike. Tubby people walk on treadmills. Mid-weight guys tend to run on treadmills.

Answer
I avoid gyms like the plague. I do yoga and Pilates....yoga at an ashram and pilates at home.

I hate the whole pick up body fascist scene that goes on at most gyms...though i used to go to one in Sydney to do kick boxing and that was great because it was a real boxing gym and the only people there apart from me we serious boxers who were actually interested in training...not looking at themselves in a mirror while they did squats and circuits. And a heap of street kids who the owner Tony Mundine takes under his wing and teaches some discipline. He is actually a very famous boxer in his own right...having won gold medals at the Olympics and the Commonwealth Games ,...and his son Anthony and brother Mick are also very successful boxers.

And there was never a metre of Lycra seen there either
lol.

I want to ride 3000 kilometres over the period of 2 months (give or take a week) does anybody have any tips?

Aaron T

Hi guys, i was thinking of riding from here (Mossman up in far north queensland) to Sydney which is about 3000 kilometres away. I was thinking of doing this with a friend of course, just after i leave grade 12, i am in grade nine now so i have plenty of time to plan this etc.

Answer
GO FOR IT!!!!

I rode across the Nullabor Plain when I was in yr 11. Best experience ever. I'd do it again in the blink of an eye (but I wouldn't have said that at the time!!!)

The support I got from the kids in the remote Aboriginal communities was unbelievable, as well as the toots from the road trains flying by.

A few tips:
* Get a really, really, really, really (you get the point) comfy seat. I had a silicon seat and my bum was still sore after day 1.
* Get your tyres filled (is it also with silicon? my cuz got it done for me) so there is less/no chance of a puncture.
* Have a back up team if you can - when I rode we were meant to have a car/driver and team as support but they all pulled out before we left. If you can't get a back up team make sure you let the police know your course - just in case.
* We bought this awesome little trailor which hooked onto the back of the bike - we stacked that full of water containers and food.
* Get walkie-talkies so you and your mate (or team) can keep in touch
* take a camera...SO many unbelievable sights

It's hard to prepare yourself mentally because it's difficult to know what to expect (for my trip it was anyway). It gets might lonely out there...I started talking to the flies!!!!

The morning I left my mum was bawling coz she thought I was gonna die (nice confidence booster before I left!!!). Don't let anyone tell you you can't do it.

Have a fundraiser to raise money for things you'll need...are you doing it for fun or for charity?

Good luck!!!!

What to do in Sydney on holiday?

Felix

My family is going to Sydney in the holidays. We have 2 or 3 nights to stay there. So far we have decided to go to Luna Park, the Zoo, Paddy's markets and we plan on going to more shops (know any good ones?), and we think we will go to the Sydney Kings basketball game on January 8 that night. So, does anyone have any recomendations on where to go and other stuff that you think will be fun? Just some places to go that could be interesting for kids (teenagers), or places that are just relaxing, etc..
Thanks! =)

Answer
Aside from all the obvious one's:

Luna Park
Opera House
Bridge Climb
Feed a Kangaroo
The Zoo

There are are also the following:

Try experiencing the harbor a bit differently by taking a jet boat ride.
Have lunch on Woolloomooloo wharf or check out markets at the rocks before hitting pancakes on the rocks.
If you want to go to the beach (Which you should) avoid Bondi & Manly, although they are beautiful they will be full of tourists. Instead go to Parsley Bay (On the east) or Long Reef (On the North). If you do go to Bondi, go further up the beach to North Bondi. It's a nicer crowd and you can grab some food and/or a drink from North Bondi Italian.

Go for a horse ride or Bike ride through Moore Park & Shopping along Oxford Street in Paddington.

Go to Miss Chu's in Darlinghurts for Lunch or Dinner, it is to die for & authentic, then go check out Kings Cross because if your in Sydney you have to see the cross. It may seem dingy but if you pick the right places it is actually a cool scene.

Also if your of age visit White Revolver in Bondi on a Wednesday night or 'The Island' on a Weekend, it's where all the best people hang out.

There is so much to do here, enjoy Sydney like a local, it's way more fun!

Mini-Bikes and the law?

Dead-Set

I have a little dirt mini-bike and I have no where at all to ride it, and I want to ride it sooo badly, is there ANYWAY I can legally ride it on a road or something?
Or does anyone know if it would be possible to ge the law on mini-bikes lifted or something? if there is a potition or something out there I will sign it.....I just think that police shouldn't be concerned about a teen riding a small motorised bike out there that is lucky to come up to their thigh....it is just like when your a little kid learning to ride your first small bike, except now your older and it is faster.
I live in NSW by the way.

Answer
I too live in nsw, im in campbeltown sydney

I know how bullshiit it is, the police have this massive grudge againts dirtbikes whether they're pocket rockets or full size 450cc's. The only legal place is a private property which you have permission for or a riding facility like appin. Unfortunatley there isnt anthing you can do to make it legal, when i was caught on my 125cc i was told next time you fight for your bike in court.

could you tell me where you live and i can help you out with other areas you can ride??

cheers

[edit] by the way to the guy above,''dirttricksracing'' the police are about >power< not keeping kids alive when it comes to mini/dirtbikes, nsw cops are very different to whateva you got in the USA

Where do you think I could buy a used bike?

Lisa

Where would YOU go to buy a used bike? I don't want a new one, I'm too cheap for that. I just don't know where to go. There's a bike shop around here somewhere, would they have used ones? Or should I go to rummage sales? The dump?

I was kidding about the dump but if you have any ideas let me know..

Answer
It wouldn't hurt to ask any local bike shops if they have pre-loved bikes in stock.
Because some do accept trade-ins & sell them on at a reasonable price (having being serviced with some form of warranty).
That's how I got my Trek hybrid, which is still going strong almost 4 years later.

Or there's always Craiglist, Ebay, classified ads in your local newspaper, gumtree etc.
If you go that option, if possible try for a local seller so you can see it in person before you buy it. And a visit to a bike-shop to give it a check-up before riding it would be a good idea also.

And find out if there are any Police auctions in your local area, because they have to been known to have some good used bikes.
Often stuff gets left behind on the public transport network & gets auctioned off. I know that there is such an auction for Cityrail in Sydney, so there might be one in your area.

Happy riding

Edit - Forgot to meantion other important stuff.

Have an idea in mind what style of bike you want, what size of bike would fit you & have a rough idea of how much time and money you are prepared to spend on making the bike roadworthy.

For a beginner, I'd recommend opting for a bike shop brand bike (like a Trek, Giant etc), no more than 1 or 2 years old. That way the components should still be in reasonably good condition and the paintwork will still look half decent.

What would you name 10 children using these names?
