How do i calculate calories burned from biking while pulling a bike trailer with kids in it?

I have found dozens of calorie calculators which give an average calories burned from bike riding, factoring in weight and speed. However, when I ride bikes, I am pulling a bike trailer with two kids having a combined weight of 75 lbs. would love to figure out how much that affects calories burned.
I appreciate any answer given but i guess i need to be more clear. I am looking for a specific website that will calculate this or a specific eqation to do so. thank you to all who help me in this matter.

Add the weight of the trailer and kids to your weight. Pulling a trailer requires alot of extra energy.

How many of you mommies/daddies/caregivers have bike trailers/seats for your child/children? I am looking into getting a trailer, the kind that sits on the ground. My husband's bday is today. I see a few on craigslist.
Another question...if you do have a bike seat or trailer, do you wear a helmet when you take your little one out? And does your little one wear a helmet?

- what kind of trailer - cargo or kid?
- how long and where do you want to ride (urban/country, flat/hilly/mountainous)?
- commuting or sports/training?
- what's your weight - and do you do any kind of sports?
- are you fixed on a bike/trailer combo, or would a (two or three wheeled) bakfiets be a practical alternative?

Unless you want to lay down at least 4k$/â¬, there's no sense in talking about 'best'. You can start thinking about 'good' (enough for everyday use) with 2k$/⬠and either the willingness to learn basic maintenance or a friendly LBS within reach.

As a short guide to what I'd consider best (I'll just throw in a few buzzwords, use google or come back here if you want to know more):
- steel frame, touring geometry, Rohloff dropouts
- Rohloff internal geared rear hub
- SON front hub generator
- Edelux front bike light, b&m rear light
- Magura hydraulic disc brakes
- disc brake rims, Schwalbe Marathon Supreme tires in 26x2.00, DD stainless spokes
- Brooks leather saddle
- closed chain box, e.g. Hebie Chainglider

That'll cut down the yearly maintenance to the gear oil change and regular inspection (and occasional exchange) of brake pads and chain.

What is the best bike trailer for me?

I have a 2yr old, and a 10 month old. I need a cart that is light weight, folds easy and is easy to clean. I live on the second floor which means that I have to completely take apart my whole set-up each time I ride. Ease of use is huge, and I intend on upgrading the inner tubes to the ones that are already filled with Green Goob and guaranteed not to go flat. If you have two kids and you like to ride, I would like to hear what brand and model of cart you have. What do you NOT like about your cart? Also, what do you LOVE about your cart? What is the function that you do not want to go without?
I am hoping that I will be able to get a bike trailer in the next couple of weeks and I would really like to get the one that will work best for me. Also, if you have any pointers I would love for you to pass them along too.

I would like to know if anyone out there has seen a trailer that holds two kids, but instead of having them side by side, they are one in front of each other.

Chariot Carriers seem to be the industry leader. Lots of different models to choose from as well. Visit the website, then find a dealer who will demonstrate how fast they assemble/disassemble, how safe they are and the different options you can get with them. Might just replace your current stroller.

Years ago we sold our car to get a slower lifestyle in our suburban town, and for 10 years we lived by bike and bus. We used the bike for short trips and for going places the bus didn't go. At the time the bus service didn't run on Sundays or holidays, so if we wanted to go anywhere, we had to take the bikes.

At the time we had three children - age 7, 4.5 and a newborn. The 7 year old rode his own bike, the 4.5 year old rode behind his dad on a trail-a-bike, and we jury-rigged an old infant seat into a bike trailer for the infant. I also carried all our groceries in that trailer, and once, a door (without the baby!). Eventually they all rode their own bikes, but it started this way.

My brother's wife is about to have a kid, and I want to give them a bike trailer to go riding with their new baby.

Has anyone invented/marketed a better system for infants in bike trailers? If so, what bike trailer does it work with, and where can I get it?

Most bike systems are designed for babies 9 months and over. It's an issue of being able to hold their heads up enough to prevent the sort of jostling that biking creates. Even a carseat in a bike trailer, isn't secure enough to hold them steady, especially not in the case of a spill or accident. I also wanted something for our five month old to use with our bikes in the spring, but no such luck. Now she's 16 months, and we've gotten her a bike seat.

I think maybe just buy them a bike trailer and let them decide what they are going to do to. It might've been a risk you and your husband were willing to take, but each parent should decide for themselves.

What to use for a 14wk baby and 2 yr old in a bike trailer? Helmets too big and car seat won't fit!?

I have a bike trailer for my two babies but I don't know how is best to keep my 14week old safest. A helmet won't fit until at least 18 months and her car seat won't fit in with my 2 year old as well :0( Don't want to be stuck in a stuffy, hot car all summer so would really like to keep fit and take them out on the bike! Help!! Thanks in advance :0)

The infant in the car seat cannot ride with the toddler -- so just get a bicycle child seat http://www.amazon.com/Bell-Classic-Bicycle-Child-Carrier/dp/B000ISXSSA for the toddler -- kid will be much happier being up there behind you and watching around the road. Also should be available at Target, locally.
