is it safe for a 13 year old to own a dirt bike?

I'm a 13 going on 14 year old and i always wanted a dirt bike.... I'm not the kind of kid who likes to try to impress... i just want a dirt bike for trails and for tracks.... i just need this question answered because i want to show my parents that its ok for me to have one and i already know that i may get bruised up and stuff... and i will wear proper equipment... so basically my question is if its ok for me to own one from someone who had more experience with dirt bikes then i do...

i got a four wheeler when i was 7 or 8 and one of my options was a dirt bike (it was for christmas) . It has nothing at all to do with age but more of maturity and responsibility.

Also a big part of it is if you know about them... A lot of people think they can just get one and expect to put gas and oil in it and drive it and that its that simple, but its NOT.. you must know how to fix it when it breaks and messes up or anything like that, and IT WILL no matter what and it will be more than one time itll mess up or have a problem plenty of times. really basic problems... but even the most basic problem can be the most pain in the world if you dont know what your doing...

HELP!! My 7 year old son is "diffenent" than other kids and gets picked on!?

My son was identified as gifted in his kinergarten year of school. He never had a problem with other kids before because they were so young and at that age everyone pretty much likes everyone else, however now that he is going to second grade I notice he is getting teased by neighborhood kids. My son's idea of a good time is not playing in the dirt or riding bikes but he would much rather go exploring with his metal detector or read his books and draw, lol...I love him so much and Im so proud of him but it hurts so much that he gets made fun of already in his life for being the way he is. I really need suggestions on how to handle this and what to say to him to keep his self esteem up and let him know he is perfect the way he is. Thanks for any advice
I dont make him read and do those things, he loves to do them! Of course he gets exersice too, we do go on outings to the park and he does play but he just enjoys doing different things

Children can be cruel. My son was the same as yours. And I taught him to take care of himself. Alot of the older boys always picked on him. But I taught him not to take any crap. He learned, and they learned to leave him alone. There is nothing wrong with him exploring with his metal detector or reading books, I think that is great. He will change as he gets older and then you may of wish he had stayed with his books and things. You're doing right, just keep telling him how proud you are of him and how much you love him. Stick by him with what ever he wants to do. You never know, he could find some riches some day with that metal detector, write his own book, or even be an artist. Stand by him.

I have a 7 year old and a 4 year old boy who are interested in dirt biking. What age would it be appropriate for them to start? I think they are a little young, my husband disagrees. What age did your kids start?

I think thats great that they want to start, there really is no age limit, you just have to go to a local dirt bike retailer and check some bikes out because they come in a bunch of sizes, i've been riding since i was 2 so i know what I'm talking about, its just takes practice. just make sure you teacher your kids and they should be fine.

My 6 year old caught her foot in my exercise bike while playing on it. A knot as big as an egg appeared, all blue/black. Her first real injury of her life. I kept my cool and was calm but man I was shaking with worry. What an awful feeling seeing your child hurt. The worst thing I have ever felt in my life was the death of my friends 7 year old, my kids best friend. It was from sudden swelling of the brain, a seizure. She didn't suffer. Knowing how my heart hurt, I can't imagine her mothers' pain. How do you cope with things like this?

YOU JUST HAVE TO REMEMBER THIS ISN'T THE WORST OF WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN THE YEARS TO COME. I HAVE 3. MY KIDS HAVE HAD CUTS BRUISES TEETH KNOCKED OUT IN SPORTS AND MY OLDEST IS ONLY 7 THEN MY SON WILL TURN 4 THIS WEEK AND MY YOUNGEST IS JUST 2. ACCIDENTS HAPPEN ALL THE TIME YOU SHOULD ALWAYS REMEMBER ONE THING AS LONG AS THEY ARE OK A LITTLE PAIN AND BRUISING WILL GO AWAY IN TIME. MY HARDEST THING HASN'T BEEN PHYSICAL IT'S THE EMOTIONAL MY 7 YR OLD HAD A KNIFE PULLED ON HER AT SCHOOL. AND THEY SUSPENEDED THE BOYS YES MORE THAN 1 WITH A KNIFE SHE WENT BACK TO SCHOOL AFTER SPRING BREAK HER TEACHER HAD THE NERVE TO SET THE BOYS NEXT TO HER IN CLASS. SHE IS AFRAID TO EAT ANYTHING WITH A KNIFE BECAUSE IT SENDS HER BACK TO THAT DAY. PHYSICAL UNJURIES WILL HEAL JUST COMFORT THEM AND ALWAYS REMEMBER IT COULD BE WORSE.

How to motivate a kid to make friendships?

My kid is 7 year old. He is shy(only with strangers). He do not want to make new friends. Recently I moved to new house where all kids play together in the evening. But he do not want to go and play with them. He gets bored because he does not have any friends. So I introduced him to those kids but still he is not ready to go and play.
This is the situation everywhere. He is not ready to make new friends.
How can I motivate him or take fear out of his mind for strangers?

First just understand and accept that he is not going to jump right into friendships easily. Don't push or pressure him to do so or he will feel just that much more anxiety about it. Let him and even encourage him to watch. See if he wants to do something outside on his own, like bike ride or do some sort of project. It also would be helpful if you perhaps invite 1 of the kids over for a playdate or invite the family over for a cookout. Think about it - would you want to be the 'new' kid in a whole group or would you feel more comfortable meeting 1 at a time?

Be the friendly parent to the other kids. Even if your son isn't outside, try being present outside when the kids are playing, doing gardening or washing your car - maybe even make some brownies or something to pass out. It will ease that transition and be more casual.
