Bicycle for College?

Dave

I will be moving to a new area down at the beach for college and will need a way of getting around to classes.

I have always been interested in cycling and have in the past considered a racing bike.

But this is college and my bike might be possibly stolen. What type of bike will be best for this situation and could someone point me towards some brands?

Answer
As I did for myself, kids, and nieces over the years, go garage sailing or garbage picking. Find something in reasonable working order, all the better if if it doesn't look like much. Flashy is bad if you don't want to attract the eye of the local ne'er-do-wells. Put some time (clean running gear, repack bearings) and a few bucks into parts (new tires, tubes, maybe a chain) to make sure its going to be reliable.

Speed is irrelevant for getting around campus. An MTB, or something heavy duty is better. Knobby tires don't flat as easily as your lighter weight touring and racing tires.

I need a bicycle for my kid?

I am in saudi arabia.i need a bicycle to be delivered in india by cash on delivery only.any online shopping portals? most of them dont have this item ? please help!

Answer
I would recommend either buying a second hand bicycle locally to near where you live, or buying a brand new bicycle in your local bike shop. You can also buy one online, however the postage costs will be a lot.

Its vintage looking with the curved handle bars. Its from about the 80's and its an olive green and cream color. The cleaned the crome and removed all the rust. Also the tubes, tires (it does not have white wall tires), bake cables, and bike chain are brand new. My parents bought me a candy apple red vintage cruiser with white wall tires for my birthday, so I was thinking of selling my old one.

Thanks!
I sold it for $150 b*tches! haha

Answer
$10.Or give it to a poor kid who has none.

I want a cheap bicycle to get around Buenos Aires. About how much could I expect to pay?

Wilson Man

I'll be living somewhere in the Belgrano/Palermo area. First of all, actually, if I were to get a bicycle, would that be a safe option for getting around or is street traffic too dangerous for cyclists? And second, how much would it cost to buy a cheap bike, not necessarily brand new. Would it be possible to get one for under $50 USD?

Answer
Forget the bike!

Probably will end up costing a lot, difficult for storage at your Palermo/Belgrano apartment!

Plus, as said here before, you will end up below a bus in NO time. And I am NOT kidding!

BUT, the plus is Buenos Aires and of course both in Palermo and Belgrano is that you have, several very in-expensive and (quite) reliable public means of transportation.

1* Sub-way (and I do not mean the sandwich!)
2* Buses
3* Taxis
4* Trains (even from Belgrano, that will take you down-town in a jiffy for less than a ARG1.00!!!)
5* Remises (private company taxis)

I don't know about you, but in my city, I get a lot of kids asking me about God and trying to convert me to whatever religion they belong to. Then I see them ride away on nice Trek brand bicycles. What I want to know is how in the hell do they get these bikes and can I join their group to get the bike and quit later?

Answer
They get them at the local bike shop that sells Treks. They were probably Mormon missionaries.

What's the best bicycle for my kids to learn to ride without training wheels?

Gina W

My husband says we should get a lighter weight bike for my daughter but I think that would be even more likely to fall over. Is there a brand of bike that has a low center of gravity or something similar that would make it easier to learn to ride? She's 6 and has a rather heavy "Cool Ride" by Dynacraft.

Answer
Your husband is right - a lighter bike would be easier to balance on: less weight = less work to balance. With a heavy bike she has to balance her weight plus the bike. Unfortunately though, they don't really make lightweight bikes for kids - they all seem to be horribly heavy.

A low center of gravity might help a bit, but you're not going to find a bike like that - all the weight goes into the structure, and anyway, the heaviest thing she's balancing is herself - the bike is only a minor part of the weight.

What you may want to do is get a 'balance bike'. These bikes train the child to balance - they have no pedals and the kid runs the bike along. The idea is to get the child to pick his/her feet up and start to learn to balance. After that, you can buy her a regular bike and she'll already have the balancing skill.

How to get spray paint off a bicycle?

Joshua

My two nieces birthday. Was a while back (their birthday is like a week apart so we celebrate it on the day) and they both got brand new bikes. Well they got stolen recently and the kids who live down the street form them suddenly has bike that look like theirs, but spray painted, so i took them.

They're both at my apartment. Now it could just be a coincidence. There's only one way to find out i need to get the spray paint off.

Don't worry if the bikes aren't pink under the paint i'll put them back. But they have the exact same pegs as my nieces bikes. So if they are my nieces bikes i'll clean them off and give them back to my nieces. If tried soap and water and it didn't work.

What can i buy to get the spray paint off?

Answer
You must let the police recover the bikes or you could be committing a crime. If those are not the right bikes what will you do then? Spray paint them? You can use mineral spirits to remove the paint without damaging the original.
