Good mini/kid dirt bike suggestions?

I finally accepted the fact that pocket bikes are illegal on the street, and decided instead to get a dirt bike that I could at least ride in my yard or at the barn where I board my horse. (There are trails.) However, I have a very low price range (nothing over $500 total---including shipping) and need a dirt bike small enough that I can throw it in the back of the car or pick it up and carry it if need be. I'm 5'6" and weight 105 lbs. and would like to get either a "mini" dirt bike, or something made for kids. (Like a 50cc engine, bigger if I can get it) I may look dumb on it, but it's just for fun! And if it's too big I won't be able to take it anywhere. But everything I find online looks like such crap that it would break in the first five minutes. Does anybody have any good suggestions? I'd get a used one off eBay, but I'm having trouble finding anything. Links or specific names would be great. Thanks!

By the way, I'm 16. So no, this would not be an adult riding. :P

Honda XR80 or XR100, both are great bikes and older ones can be had cheep.

Check out Honda Ruckus dual/sport version- is basic moped with dirt tires but street legal some places while being actually useful in mild dirt, off road use. Honda also made a 50cc Cub/trail model, might still make it for your area. The Asian Market models sometimes not available in Europe, US- and 50cc utility/dual sport types fair sellers in Thailand and Indonesia. .

Is it legal to ride a small 50cc dirt bike on the sidewalk?

I am buying my son a pw50 dirtbike and I want to take him on the sidewalk around the neighborhood right by my house. Not on any sidewalk by any busy public roads or anything. Just by my house and the neighbors' houses. Is that legal in California? Even with a small child on a small bike (with all the safety gear and everything)? I've seen youtube videos with little kids riding on the sidewalks and in front of their houses, but don't know what states they are in. If not that, can he still ride on my front lawn and driveway? My backyard is not huge and I want my son to have a ton of room to ride without having to go to a track/trail/OHV area all the time. Are they also legal on beaches where there aren't too many people?

A 50cc bike is a motor vehicle (by definition, a "motor driven cycle"). It is illegal to operate a motor vehicle on the sidewalk anywhere in California. Veh C 21663. However, unless there is some applicable local ordinance concerning the operation of motor vehicles on private property (and there may well be some zoning restrictions), I don't know of any law which would be violated if he rode on the driveway or in the back yard. It is illegal to operate motor vehicles on almost all beaches (I know of only one exception), and a license would be required on any beach where operation of a motor vehicle would be permitted.

BTW, there ARE places where riding a bike on the sidewalk is permitted, if done safely, including the City of Los Angeles.

Are 50cc gas powered dirt bikes legal for kids aged 13?

I'm 13 years old, I've been thinking about getting a gas powered dirt bike for kids, there are trails about 40 blocks away from my house, I plan on riding there, doing a jumps, and riding back. Is it legal to do that?

Your parent will have to haul the bikes the 40 blocks to the trails. You cannot operate this on the road. Illegal.
I will give you credit for asking before making the decision to spend money on a motorized toy.

How many gears does it have, 2 stroke? 4 stroke? top speed. Best brand?

when i was little i had a 2 stroke yamaha, it was an automatic so i have no idea how many gears, and a 4 stroke honda, i think it had 3 gears. neither had a clutch. I would go with 4 stroke, they require less maintenance and a kid really doesn't need any of the benefits of a 2 stroke. honda's last. plus having to switch gears gets them ready for a real bike.

When I get the money, I am considering buying a 50cc dirtbike so I can just ride it to my friends houses and stuff, just for fun. I already have an 80cc Honda, so I already have a bike that fits me. I just think it will be fun to have a small bike that can get me places. Should I get it or spend my money on something else? Help meeeeeee

only if you are small enough to ride it safely. they have little power and are made for small kids. since you already have an 80cc, just ride it.
