Question about street bikes?

Iv always had dirt bikes as a kid and never had any troubles and im only 18 now but iv never drivin a street bike and by the way im not a very big guy. Only about 5'4" 5'5" and about 115lbs. How much different is it? I kind of want both opinions of how different it is for something like a harley and for something like a cbr or ninja.

1st, always pick a bike big or small enough that you can handle.

2nd, start small, i.e. a 250, and grow into bigger bikes, the best way that I tell new riders to pick a bike is to straddle it and if you can put your hand between your seat and crotch with an inch to spare then the bike is the right size.

3rd, there are several differences between dirt bikes and street bikes...weight and handling and style are the biggest factors. Most dirt bikes weigh in at about 250lbs give or take while most street bikes will weigh in at about 500lbs.

4th, another difference is street/cruiser, street sport, and sport. Again, weight and handling and style...all three have the power to put you on your butt if you don't respect what that bike can do.

5th, always respect your bike because if you don't...you will end up either in the hospital or the morgue. also take a rider safety course, I guarantee that you will learn something.

Electric Motorbikes for kids?

I want to get a bike for my friend and he is 1 year younger than me (12) and i found razor motorcycles but they are pretty small. So please any good motorcycles that are road legal and are legal for kids that can fit a kid 5 feet?

There's no cheap electric bike that would fit you like it should. If you really want a bike, go with a gas powered. Like a Yamaha tt-r 125. Or of you don't want a actual dirtbike, a Baja db30 minibike is a great value. Check out my YouTube I have a modified Baja db30

26" GT Aggressor Mountain Bike?

I found one of these on Craigslist for $150. Its six years old and rarely used. Im not too up to speed on mountain biking, other than I'm not suppose to get a bike at a department store (seems to be the consensus I'm getting).

How are these bikes?
Is this a decent price for this particular model?

The #1 problem I see is - people always buying ATB or off-road bikes when they never go off-road. Get the point? Yeah...if you install some different tires on it, it would ride a lot better on pavement.

But you'll still have those suspension parts chewing up your energy. With every stroke of the pedals, part of your energy is soaked up by suspension parts & not transmitted to the rear wheel.

Best Road Biking Gear ?

My dad is an avid biker.
However, he is sacrificial and never buys anything for himself, only for his family, so he has done without the legitimate biking gear for years.

This Christmas, I want to hook him up with some legitimate gear!

It's cooler where I live, so I know he definitely needs some biking pants, a jacket, and like, biking glasses (he always rides with sunglasses, but I want him to have the legitimate gear) (:

You sound like my kids. I'm congenitally cheap. I do get legitimate gear, but I lean towards the sale bins and closeouts, while my kids get me the good stuff that I would never buy for myself. Yes, its always appreciated.

Some thoughts: Shoes are good, but you can't buy them online, since sizes and fit are all over the place even among different models from the same brand.

Gloves are always good. If you're dad's putting in any kind of miles, he's wearing out gloves constantly. Tights, jerseys, underarmour (I like that better than bike specific base layers)

Here's my favorite place for a variety of jerseys. They have other stuff as well. If you get lucky and find what you need in their closeout section, you can be stylish AND frugal.

I need a new bike but I don't understand the sizing?

My bike was recently stolen and I'm in need of a new bike. My previous bike was a cheap beach cruiser from Walmart, but this time I'd like to get a nicer bike, preferably a road bike. I've been browsing for road bikes on the internet and I think I've found one that I like, however I'm not sure about what size I need to get. Several weeks ago I was COASTING downhill on a 2012 Giant Escape City hybrid http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-us/bikes/model/escape.city/8910/48611/ and passed a kid PEDALING one of those GMC bikes. His response? "What the F---?!"

REAL road bikes are measured in 2 cm increments from REAL bicycle shops. Ones on Internet sites you have to assemble & tune-up yourself. Can you do this? Brakes need to be lined up & adjusted. Derailleurs have to be adjusted. Or worse - wheels need to be trued up. There's not a bicycle in this world that comes ready-to-ride out of the box.

Those GMC Denali bikes may last a year. You want to waste money or spend money on a bike that will last for YEARS? If it's the latter of the two - see links below...and your authorized, independent, knowledgeable, friendly, local bicycle shop.

These are but 4 examples of "good" road bikes. You could take anywhere from a 53.5 cm frame size up to a 56 cm frame size. It's NOT universal from one company to the next. TRY B4 you BUY! Take 'em out for a test ride before you buy one. If you can't extensively test ride it - DON'T buy it!

That's about the cheapest piece of crap you could possibly buy.

1) Wally World sells "bicycle shaped objects", not REAL bicycles.
2) That bike uses the LOWEST and CHEAPEST components possibly found.
3) The bike will be too small for you.
4) $200 will NOT buy a good MTB or any other type of bicycle.
5) Where will you be riding? If not off-road at least 80% of the time - you don't NEED a mountain bike. You NEED a hybrid or possibly a dual sport bike.

Start thinking $450 to $500 for a good bike. Or look for a quality used bike before buying anything from a discount store. On a cheap full squish bike like that, you will not ride down the road, you will B-O-U-N-C-E down the road.

REAL bicycles from REAL bike shops come in various frame sizes to fit people of all sizes from short to tall. That so-called bike would be the right size for a growing kid - about 5' 7" or maybe 5' 8". GTABS - Go To A Bicycle Shop.

How do you stop a bike chain from rusting?

All my kids have bikes. We have no room in the house for them and no garage or carport. THe chains have all gotten pretty rusty from the rain and stuff.
How can we get rid of the rust?
How can we prevent it from happening again?

First, if the bikes aren't covered or protected for example under a porch, or in your basement, or an unused room buy some heavy plastic sheets (8X8) at your local Ace Hardware and cover them. Second, buy some WD40 lubricant and spray this on the chain. Then while holding the rear wheel off the ground crank the pedals and wipe the oil and dirt off the chain using an old rag (repeat several times). Lastly lubricate the chain with a good light weight oil. Suggestions "3 & 1" oil, light machine oil, or SAE Grade 5W or 10W motor oil. You don't want a heavy coat. A good light coat should do it. Avoide lithium grease as it collects dirt.

What campground is best to camp at, at the Grand Canyon?

My husband and I are taking our 4 little kids (1-7 years old) camping at the Grand Canyon next month in June. I'm just wondering what campground we should stay at? We would like somewhere with running water and flush toilets, and other stuff like that. You know the easy, convenient way to camp. We will be sleeping in a tent and need room for parking a minivan and small utility trailer. We would like someplace not too busy but also want fun activities and to be close to stuff to see. Thanks for any good answers!

Here's a couple of recommendations for Grand Canyon South Rim:

1. Kaibab Lake Campground - It's near the juncture of 1-17 & Hwy 64 at Williams going north to the Canyon. It's about 60 miles from the Park gate but the setting is beautiful and you've got a lake. Campsites have all you need.

2. Mather Campground - Just inside the Park gates. Call in advance as it can book quick. Great value. Has bathrooms, running water. It's also near the in-Park supermarket. Bike paths aplenty. Easy access to shuttle buses.

I think most white people I know wouldn't because they would beleive if they did the crime....they deserved the punishment.

Isn't the object to arrest criminals? No matter what color they are? There was a gang of black kids who beat-up a white boy to steal his bike and for some reason they wouldn't charge them with a "race" crime even though they made racial comments. I mean this race stuff isn't a one-way street.
