Neighbors kid (age 4) took my daughters (age 4) bike....?

maggiemae

and when his older sister (age 6) returned it, the tassles had been ripped off the handlebars and the attached princess handlebar bag was missing. My husband spoke to the mother twice asking for the bag back. She said she has seen the bag in her house and will return it when she gets a chance. It's been over a week and nothing.

It's my daughters first bike. She cries for her bag everytime we go outside and she sees that neighbors house. What do I do now? I don't want to be dramatic, but I'm tempted to threaten her with a police theft report. Kind input appreciated.

Answer
Just take your daughters hand and go directly to the neighbors house. Just say I'm sorry but, my daughter has been aking all morning for her bag, can you please get it for her now. She has a 4 yr. old and she should know what its like.

Jobs 4 Kids of age 13?

Diane S

I am looking for a well paying job for my 13 year old daughter. She wants to maybe work at a library I think she is to young.

Is this true?
She wants a job she can maybe ride her bike to or walk

any ideas?

Answer
Jobs

There are many ways you can earn money. I babysit and I get paid very well. But I think you have to be 13-14 to start.

My Rates

1-2 kids ~ $5.00/hour
Each additional child ~ $1.25/hour

*When you are babysitting a baby under 10 months old, you should ask to be paid a bit more than your regular charge, since you must give more attention, change the baby, feed the baby, and put the baby to bed.

Another Idea is to have a bake sale/ lemonade stand. Me and my sisters baked all week, made poster signs and decided how much we should charge for each baking good. Any age is perfect for this job!

Another good job is to start a walking dogs for neighbours that have dogs. You can either put up posters around town, or hand out fliers to people you know that have dogs. I would charge 5 dollars per dog.

Another good job is to wash cars, or open a car wash business with friends for a few days, mow the lawn, shovel drive ways in the winter, and help people clean there house that might need help.

If are 14 years or older, you could also work at fast food restaurants, or grocery stores too.

what size dirt bike would I need to buy my son who is 4, almost 5?

Carslo

Answer
Get a 50cc bike for him but only allow use under supervision as at that age they don't have complete control of their reflexes. One of my kids started at the same age so I have nothing against them being on a bike as long as supervised. We spent lots of hours running along side to make sure the kids didn't hurt themselves. Great exercise.

I am not a fan of trainer wheels on bikes as have watched heaps of kids with them and the trouble is unless the surface is completely smooth as soon as the bike wheel goes into a rut the trainer wheels get stuck straddling the rut and the kid usually falls off anyway. So just do some research on those before getting any.

Don't buy a cheap helmet although it is really hard to get good expensive ones for kids as most are made from plastic. but do your best and above all get them fitted for it as a sloppy helmet does nothing

Who has bought a trampoline for their kids?

Q. We recently bought our kids aged 4,6,6, a trampoline for Christmas because they have used them before and love it! Lots of people say "death trap" or other not so nice things. I know they COULD be dangerous, but so can riding your bike. We wil surpervise them of course because they are young. We have an enclosure and it's 12 feet. what are your thoughts?

Answer
My 4 love theirs. Ages 10, 8, 3, 3.

for a little girl (age 4) and a little boy (age 10), either they get bumped or don't get their way, what things do you find helpful to stop them from crying? or do you just let'em waterworks flow?

Answer
Listen to them. Don't negotiate or give in, but make sure they know they are heard. And talk to them honestly. Telling my kids the truth has made it a lot easier for them to accept things.
And give them the words, we are not born knowing how to talk about our feelings. We don't know the difference between frustrated and disappointed and angry, someone needs to explain it.
I will hug first, then explain what I think is bothering them, give an example of when I felt that way just to be sure we both understand how they feel, and then cement the original situation..."Please don't ride your bike so fast and you won't fall like that." or "I am not going to buy that today."

My husband likes to bargain and bribe....I hate that, it doesn't work and will often undo good progress.

Is there an infant seat system for bike trailers?

Arwen

Years ago we sold our car to get a slower lifestyle in our suburban town, and for 10 years we lived by bike and bus. We used the bike for short trips and for going places the bus didn't go. At the time the bus service didn't run on Sundays or holidays, so if we wanted to go anywhere, we had to take the bikes.

At the time we had three children - age 7, 4.5 and a newborn. The 7 year old rode his own bike, the 4.5 year old rode behind his dad on a trail-a-bike, and we jury-rigged an old infant seat into a bike trailer for the infant. I also carried all our groceries in that trailer, and once, a door (without the baby!). Eventually they all rode their own bikes, but it started this way.

My brother's wife is about to have a kid, and I want to give them a bike trailer to go riding with their new baby.

Has anyone invented/marketed a better system for infants in bike trailers? If so, what bike trailer does it work with, and where can I get it?

Answer
Most bike systems are designed for babies 9 months and over. It's an issue of being able to hold their heads up enough to prevent the sort of jostling that biking creates. Even a carseat in a bike trailer, isn't secure enough to hold them steady, especially not in the case of a spill or accident. I also wanted something for our five month old to use with our bikes in the spring, but no such luck. Now she's 16 months, and we've gotten her a bike seat.

I think maybe just buy them a bike trailer and let them decide what they are going to do to. It might've been a risk you and your husband were willing to take, but each parent should decide for themselves.

Good luck!
