What do you recommend for a beginning road biker?

So I just found out my college has a cycling team. I've never competitively biked nor even own a road bike. I ride my cheap mountain bike to and from work frequently. However, I really want to join the team. What bike do you recommend for a beginner that isn't too expensive... as I am a college kid. I've been looking at craigslist at some old peugeots..

If you are going to become competitive you need atleast 105 components when its shimano. If its SRAM then you should go with atleast SRAM Rival Components. I am talking about shifters and derailleurs. You need something that shifts on command. Anything like Sora components will not shift on command and they will make you lose valuable momentum and time while the peloton starts moving away. I suggest spending atleast $1,100 for your first road bike. I think that is the lowest price you can get a decent road bike nowadays. My first road bike was $1,100. It had Shimano 105 components and I was willing to spend the extra because the other bike I was considering which had the Shimano Tiagras did not shift so well. I just purchased a nice bike. The money you spend on your bike is worth the investment considering the amount of time you will spend with it. You get to be outdoors as well.

I am not sure what could be a good bike for a female. Make sure you get the bike that is the right size for you. Dont end up getting suckered into buying a bike that is slightly too big or slightly too small at a local bike shop because they are trying to get rid of that bike to make room for new inventory. Some bike shops will do that to you.

I recently looked at a Kona Zing. Thought it was a good bike for the price. Its roughly $1,100 and it has components that are found on bikes that normally cost $1,800.

I am 5'10 155lbs with a budget up to 1000$ but prefer 600 - 800$ I rode on a 850$ Cannondale road bike for a little over a year back in 2008 so i have some cycling experience on the road, but i am looking to get into trails and climbing. I live in Miami, FL if that helps you help me.

My preference leans me to a 29er medium frame, but i can't seem to find anything other than a Scott Aspect.

What is the best starter motorcycle for me?

Im 190 lb, 6'1'', iv never rid-in a real motorcycle before just dirt bikes and small kid motorcycles. I was wondering what is the best starter motorcycle for me, I like choppers but there usually expensive and I didn't want to spend more than $5,000. It's only for transport around a small town and just to get to school. What is the best bike? It would also be helpfull it is big and heavy it would help bring my dad to allowing it since he is sort of against it.

We see this question pretty often, but the family angle is new. So let me start there. If you are going to seriously compromise the relationship with your father, work on that before taking the plunge. Show him that you're serious about safety by taking the Motorcycle Safety Class before shopping. Check into insurance rates. Ask him questions about coverage. Show him that you're safe in the car. Don't get any speeding tickets or drive with a heavy foot on the accelerator. Bottom line, best to prepare him by showing dad that you're ready.

Beyond that, there are limitless choices in motorcycles. Big and heavy isn't a great place to start since once they start to tip, there's no stopping them! Light and fast - the Honda CBR, Suzuki GSX-R, etc - are not the typical best first bike as they are very powerful and can do more than what a new rider is ready to do!

So starting small is not a bad way to go. Go sit on a few and see how they work for you. Try a few on - you can usually sit on them but not ride them - and remember what you intend to do with the bike. I like the Ninja 250 and Ninja 500 right now. Personally, I got back into riding on the Suzuki SV650 - but took it VERY easy at the start. But good to start with something manageable in size and move up when you're ready. Otherwise life can be too short! Good luck!

How do you adjust the Governor on a small 90cc dirt bike?

Q. I need to no how to make this new bike that my friend just got go faster the gov. make it not able to top out so its relly slow, cant take hills very good ither. This bike is a 2004, and dosnt have a cluch its made for small kids. He bought it used but the people that had it befor him got the bike out of nothern tool mag. if any one can help I would highly apprecheate it.
